Also, you may want to look at the Edge 820. $399, just released with lots of new features.

I visited my bike shop and decided to just go with the Garmin rear radar detector and their head unit. I really don't think i would use all the features on a Garmin being the non-techie that I am. When I go to Naples, Fla every winter for 2 month the traffic is crazy. I think the Garmin will help me to know what cars are behind me, how far away they are and how fast they are approaching, but it won't do anything with distracted drivers and the Q-tips down there who drive in a fog. Its not perfect but it's better than what I got. Thanks for the great input on the Garmin.

I used the Garmin Varian rear radar detector on a 40 mile ride this morning. It worked flawlessly. It let me know when no cars were approaching (green light) and let me know when vehicles were approaching (amber light) As soon as a vehicle was about 150 yds away a small white led ran up a scale of about 10 leds until the vehicle was right off my left rear. If vehicles were coming faster than posted speed limits a red led lit up. Bottom line amber is look back, red is forget it. 4 of the red rear leds flash until a vehicle is detected then 4 more flash and intensify as the vehicle gets closer. I feel a little safer and do not constantly look back. Pretty cool.

It's a new bike day for me. Replaced my old beat down Allez DSW with a new Allez Sprint DSW Ltd frame.

Nice! Glad you like it. How does it work with other cyclists behind you?

First impressions are very good. It feels familiar right out of the gate and the bottom end feels fantastic for an aluminum frame.

Haha, I think that angle makes it look even more extreme. I do ride with a pretty aggressive seat to bar drop though admittedly.

Yeah , in Iowa it was really nice to watch the worldcup race , course was beautiful with a long uphill ..
The worldchampion won in Vegas and Iowa with a crack in his big toe bone ! (no joke)
The worldchampion is "Wout van Aert" and of course he is Belgian (see pic below from in Iowa) ...
The cyclo-cross season is always in winter and so we have now every weekend a race till february 2017...
Don't know if you can watch or receive the cyclo-cross races on your local tv stations in Florida ?
Here a resume from the race in Iowa ...in the top 10 were 8 Belgians !
Enjoy...

The Belgium cyclist are killing it these days.

Cyclocross is a strange sport to me. But exciting none the less. Kind of difficult here in FL with all the sand. Little easier in N. FL but near me there is a lot of soft sand.

Thanks for sharing.

SRAM eTap update.

Got 705 miles on the first charge before the rear battery died. Was kind of nice to put the idea of switching front battery with rear into practice. A little confidence inspiring i guess. The rear battery died only 5 miles into a 58 mile ride. After switching the batteries, there was no issue with functionality. Except with the front derailleur of course.

Yeah , I knew for most Americans cyclocross is a strange sport .
Sand ? Sure... we have that as well

We have every season 2 sand races , you can see a sand downhill race at 1:07 runtime .
A race on snow and ice with freeze temps ? Or snow on sand...
No problem ...You can see that at 3:55 runtime

In the last 10 years I watched every single cyclocross because it's top spectacle !
It's kinda gladiators on race bikes prepared for the extreem offroad situations in the fields ..

Cyclocross is finally catching on here at the casual and amateur level! I dabble with racing CX and am absolutely terrible at it, but it is awesome fun.

Nice to hear this
Over here in Belgium cyclocross is a top professional competition sport !
The Top 5 of the world is Belgian !
It's no joke on the offroad course in combination with the weather elements in the Belgian winter...
Next race is next Sunday in the Netherlands (Gieten) for the Superprestige rankings...
Can't wait to watch it

Absolutely, the real deal is from Belgium. It must be a really cool scene there, the races must be incredible in person.

I'm glad you love it ! And I love to share it ..
Like I told you previous ...I drove 4 years in the Belgian competition on the road and some of these guys I met in person .
So.. I'm still in it , and some races have 60-70,000 spectators !
The last 2 years we have also a cyclocross in Spa-Francorchamps (super prestige) this means the Belgian Ardennes with a lot of uphill !
The cyclocross cours comes also for a part on the F1 circuit in Spa ! (Eau Rouge) !!!

I feel like there should be a cycling cup series that takes place in super speed ways that have an infield road course. It makes for an easy place to spectate the whole race and with 2 to 3 mile laps, it's pretty easy to make a long race.
