I moved here 5+ years ago from Nashville, and love being a mile from the beach. Coldest its been this year was 50deg. F (10 deg. C). Very rough here. Tons of Canadian snowbirds in the winter, and tons that have relocated.

I mean frick - you lot even have a poisonous snail. Perhaps the slowest moving animal on the planet is still deadly there. |

Yes we have deadly snakes, spiders, sharks, even snails (apparently) FFS but in 99.9% of places tourists and residents alike go you will never see any of them let alone get attacked. I’ve lived here for about 56 years and I have never seen most of the deadly creatures. Might see the very occasional red back (like the black widow), I’ve never seen a Funnel Web or a Eastern Brown snake or anything like them. Don’t go wandering around in the bush and you’ll be safe. Imagine getting attacked by a death snail. “Tell us what happened”, “I don’t know it all happened so fast”...... We do have Kangaroos jumping down the streets though |

Course, now that I think about it, most that I've met have been through work or work circles which means they had to pass the screening tests of global firms...maybe that's why I've had such good experiences. Maybe there is something deeper to you lot calling each other cunts all the time than just good natured fun. |

Jokes aside wife is on the very edge re. COVID19, she wants a safe haven. There are other issues here too, current government is squarely aiming at us (two professionals, marginal tax rates will increase) to cover their utterly insane spending. The long winters are starting to wear us out too, it's Feb 1st and you're looking at late May before consistent warm weather.
I am more a pragmatist and the longer term issues (climate, cost of living gap dramatically closing, lack of landscape in GTA, massive debt and huge public service will bite us here eventually) bother me more than the handling of COVID19. Wife has been a hard core supporter of viscous lock down and absolute shutting of border from day 1 and is absolutely gob smacked how badly it is being handled here. YOu can argue if she is right or wrong but she has been consistent. |
