Well, since my flight's delayed by 90 mins, thinking of grabbing a bottle of Blanton's from the Duty Free.

Well, even though there's a big sign in front saying "domestic travelers welcome", that evidently doesn't cover booze. Fuck me.

Yes, I’ve had the same problem before. I was hoping you were traveling international.

It’s hot, enjoying a fresh Pimm’s cocktail and a Moscow Mule, love Purus vodka.

Do they sell tag no5 vodka where you are? That has got to be one of the smoothest vodka I've ever tasted.

Or I was just half in the bag. I have a bottle in the freezer that I'll open soon

I’ll grab a bottle if I find it. Thanks for the tip

Went to meet a friend at our usual bar/restaurant tonight and it was mobbed, so we went across the street to a bar that's been there forever, but one that I'd never been in. All they had was serious crap beer (Miller Lite, Bud Lite, etc), so I ordered a Jameson's with a splash of seltzer. The girl behind the bar looked at me funny and grabbed the Jameson's off the shelf and walked to the far end of the bar. I saw her open a plastic bottle with a yellow label and knew right then she was about to taint my Jameson's with tonic water. Sure enough, she brings me a Jameson's and tonic. YUCK.

How do dive bars like that stay in business? Shitty beer and clueless bartenders. I don't get it.

I will likely be opening my Nikka from the barrel this weekend when my brother comes into town. I can let you know what I think.

I have not been overly impressed with any of the high west stuff except for the Midwinter nights dram, and even that is pushing it at the price point IMO.

Tried it last night, was good stuff. I'm not particularly good at describing them however. Seemed a bit smokey and maybe oak. Smell was semi sweet like caramel or vanilla maybe.

I am 90% sure that anyone that has tasting notes like light cinnamon, elderberry, lemon zest, and a spritz of northwood pine... are completely full of shit and just make up flavors because they know nobody else can taste well enough to pinpoint any of that crap either.

I got a bottle of Wild Turkey American Honey. It's way too sweet for me but I will choke it down until it's gone.

With any whiskey it's either smokey or not, with maybe a note about smoothness. To paraphrase a Supreme Court Justice, it's hard to define good whiskey, but I know it when I taste it.

Started my journey in Irish Whiskey thank to this thread. Got a bottle of Proper Twelve 2 weeks ago and been sipping a glass almost everyday. Very surprise how nice and smooth it is for $20. Been a Scotch whiskey guy the whole time.

What other Irish Whiskey do you guys recommend?

I recommend grabbing a bottle of RedBreast 12 or Yellow Spot. Either one of those would be a great start.
Also, the Jameson Lively is amazing as well, but I don’t think it’s available here in the states. But if you see it, grab a bottle, you won’t be disappointed. Here are some of my favorites in my collection (Irish).
Let us know what you get and how you like it.
Cheers!

Connemara is good, if you are looking for s/t at a lower price point; I like Irish but don't love any enough to go past the 40=50 dollar range (was into Redbreast until it spiked up in price).

Do you have 14 bottles of Proper 12? That is absurd! I see a few good scotches thrown in here.

Connemara is a peated Irish whisky, probably very different than most other ones you can get.

If you like Connemara you would likely like Talisker 10, I find them comparable.

Got about 4 bottles coming Saturday (my brother lives near a store with crazy selection and we facetimed) and he is also bringing a Balvenie 21 port wood.
