That's cool, the new autos are very smart and desirable, these days.

Do the F30's also have the auto start/stop function? During my test drive of the F80, it really threw me off because I thought, "how the fuck did I actually manage to stall an automatic car?"

Also, funniest part of that test drive had to have been when I was leaving the dealership; super steep incline that required angling to not drag the bumper, and as I slowed and the RPM's receded, I instinctively moved my left foot to stop the car from stalling as it slowed to exit the ramp...only to realize that there was no third pedal.

I'm not used to this fancy stuff.

The ZF-8 in my f30 is brilliant. I have the sport auto transmission option on mine too, so it shifts really nicely. A lot better than the A6.

It does have auto stop/start. Can be disabled via a button under the start engine button. If I'm driving in the city, I generally have it off. If I'm in the suburbs, it's stays on. Supposedly reducers consumption by 10% or so.

The gear shift itself is fine. Don't forget, in stock form, the E46 is like rowing a boat. So the GLI feels shorter.

The factory clutch is absolute shit. The clutch feel is garbage. My factory clutch was shot after about 13k miles. For those of you that don't know, factory clutches can hardly hold stock power. I had the clutch replaced under warranty with the factory remanufactured clutch kit. The reman included a beefier pressure plate and a better clutch disc. The clutch feel I have now is perfect. Very similar to the E46. It's held the stage 1+ power now for 34k miles. I'm hesitant to get the stage 2 tune though. I'm afraid I may have clutch issues if I up the power again.

Yeah, I turned it off immediately. It rests right above the start/stop button. It's funny, CA was like "who TF buys an M3 to save gas anyway?" And I was like shit, you right, TF.

They must have fixed something for the 2014-2015 MY GLI, because my ex girlfriend's was flawless. It held the power and resisted perfectly. I noticed yours didn't have the LED tails that the newer MK6's have, but I guess it all comes down to the power, also. Kinda refuted by the fact that yours went out without a tune though, so idk. Maybe your car was defective? Srs.

I never understood the point of people complaining about gas mileage on these cars.

Whenever I'm in the Ghost or 458, people ask me about gas mileage. I personally don't check what I'm averaging, so I just say around 18mpg. They get all frazzled and shit. They get even more frazzled when I tell them how much I drive.

It's a car guy thing I guess. Too me, fuel economy isn't as important as the overall experience. Yes, it suck sometimes that I have to fill up multiple times a week. But, I don't mind as my cars make me happy. Plus, they are the reason I'm able to drive and maintain them.

Haha, his question was "what". If he said "who", then I would say no one. Because I'm the OT Grammar Nazi, biotch!

Right?! LOL so trivial.

What's interesting to me is that someone actually wants to know the mileage on cars like those. It's almost like people looking at my sleeve and going "whoa, that's a lot of tattoos... did they hurt?" Like STFU n00b.

I totally agree! I don't care about gas mileage. I have no control over gas prices and I need to drive places, so I don't even think about it.

It's weird. More often now then ever. People seem to be more interested in the average than the performance. Then, they try and lecture me on the subject while in waiting for the tank to fill.

Sigh

If I cared about gas mileage, I probably wouldn't keep a car in NYC.

The car, to me, is a tool and a form of release from all the shit daily life throws at me.

My average is 5, due to constant bouncing off the rev limiter at lights and pedal to the floor to get where need to be.

I'm really torn here...LOVE the TDi MK6 (6MT), however I drove a Duramax Diesel Colorado this weekend and LOVE that truck....

I can downsize my Tacoma and the TDi into one vehicle - get the best of both worlds:

30+ MPG from a Truck with 'enhanced' exhaust and tune, TQ out the azz.....

Decisions, decisions...
