Don't get ahead of yourself - that said 85% of ELIGIBLE compensation. Not 85% of your salary.

Your eligible compensation could be 2% or 3% or something low like that. How about you prove that component too!

I looked it up since I was curious, and there is a 401k plan handbook from your job posted on google from the early 2000s which says " your employer gives a matching contribution equal to 50% of your elected deferral". I'm assuming after all these years it's 85% now but that's still not dollar for dollar.

https://www.franklintempleton.com/sh...EZ_STD_SPD.pdf
Yes 20 years ago it was 50% match of your contribution, it's now 85%. You are more than welcome to call HR and confirm. I figured no one would believe me.

Match rate 75% of every dollar contributed with no cap, including catch-up contributions

It's 85% for 3 years then back to 75% FYI

I guess that our employer's 250% match for a 5% contribution was a good deal until COVID.

We have no unions or anything, but I chair an in-house committee that brings employee concerns to the president. I do not expect to see our former generous match return any time soon, but I do have a platform to make a suggestion for something better than the post-COVID 0% to boost morale.....

If that's truly the case then that's very good. No real need to invest in the stock market at that point when you get 85% matched as free money lol

That's what I'm screaming! I still have a few other stocks (NLST, T, XLE, etc) and UGMA/529s for my kids.

My company matches 100%, up to I think 5% of your salary. Which can still be a pretty significant amount. Plus there's our ESPP where we get to allocate pre-tax salary towards buying into that, which lets us purchase stock at a 15% discount off the lowest price in the last 2 years.

Airbnb for sure...question is, will it be worth the risk of selling out of a current position to fund the buy

I’m going in on ABNB. DASH is stupidly overvalued imho but look at it climb today 👍
Edit - DASH from its IPO price but probably only for institutional investors...

100b valuation currently. What an absolute joke. Would never consider it at this price point but hey who knows it might just get boosted to unrealistic valuations just like tons of tech stocks.

I just threw some of my sidelined cash into SPYG on Monday. Mark my words, the S&P 500 has now peaked and the free fall begins!

Seriously though, I read an interesting article recently, that pointed out that the roaring 1920's followed the last major global pandemic. Post-WW-I economy impacts aside, it would be nice if history repeated itself in the 2020's.....

I bought calls for SPY the other day and was up 33% in 5 min and couldn't execute the sell order in time before market close due to work.... ended up selling today at a -50% loss.....

Fuck. I need to stop my gambling habits playing SPY calls lol

I just read that Tesla is being added to the S&P 500 in a week, and it could make things interesting for SPY and related funds in the near term.....

TSLA. Another one I can’t figure out. Very overweight but the dang stock won’t hit my trigger price 🤣

I was jumping for joy last week when BSRC spiked. I was left holding the bag at $0.13 a few years ago when it dropped like a rock down to a penny, and never imagined getting out at a profit until I saw the programmed sell price alert go off for $0.17 and immediately hit the sell button.

In retrospect, I should be kicking myself for not buying more when it was at a penny a few months ago.....
