I don't think the on track emissions was the selling point of the turbo-hybrids. It was that the HUGE engine R&D costs would also be useful to the engine manufacturers for street cars as well. Tons of small engine turbos and hybrid cars out there. Not many V10s or V12s

That's what Formula E is for. I'm no engineer but I can't see much overly complicated F1 engine technology tricking down into road cars. Plenty of manufactures are getting into the turbo-hybrid game without the benefit of F1 technology. BMW for one since this is a BMW forum.

Point is F1 is for fun, competition and enjoyment! This new power unit isn't even called an engine anymore. Plus, fuel saving shouldn't be in the equation unless it's a team call. Drivers should be able to to put in qualifying laps each and every lap without fuel worries if given the talent to do so. 20 cars burning a few extra liters of fuel shouldn't concern anyone. And tires? I can see some limitations but drivers shouldn't have to worry about running out of those either...IMHO

I agree with nearly everything here. My formula would be the following:

V8 or V10 with KERS.
Minimum weight back to 675KG
40KG of fuel with refueling brought back
No more cheese tires.

This would fix most of what is wrong with F1.

^^. Agreed with this

2 things I hate hearing during a race

Tire management
Fuel management (lift and coast) when not needed to cool the brakes

I really think they should change the tire requirement
FROM - using 2 different tires
TO - using any mix of tires, but mandatory 2 stops

Refueling is before my time. What was the major reason F1 went away from it outside of the garage, danger? Indycar and many others do it currently. It would definitely lead to longer pit stops again but as long as it affects everyone the same idk why they couldnt go this route if it improved the racing.

OH YES, F1 refueling was completely different than Indy / NASCAR. F1 used high pressure to fuel instead of slow dump cans. Dangerous but much more exciting!!!
Added one more thing that could go wrong and effect race outcome.

Found one example listed below but there are much more dramatic examples

Indycar refueling is by a raised tank emptying into a 5" diameter hose...the 22 gallon tank can be filled in less than 10 seconds. Fast is a factor, but that was only part of what Formula 1 refueling was about. F1 was about fuel load and the different strategies that could be employed. Starting with little fuel, a car could create a big enough lead that could be tough to overcome. Then also, on tracks where passing is more difficult light load starts by weaker cars was the norm. Having the wrong fuel load when a safety car deployed could ruin one teams plans while catapulting a team that chose the correct amount. Refueling strategies added another dimension to the race...exciting and tough for the teams to predict or counter.

Doesnt that add luck in as a greater element and reduce a "level" playing field where the drivers skill is able to be more of a factor?

They went away from it to save about 10 million year in equipment and transportation services.

Big mistake.

He needs to go. Domenacali (sp?) and Arrivibene were FAR better TPs. I get sick each time I hear some cringy statement from him and if he can't understand winning...he needs to go. Now. He's bad for Ferrari and that is bad for Formula One.

Think of it more like another added dimension. Some tracks are more likely to have safety car deployment than others...so on those tracks, sure it's more of a gamble. As for a level playing field, the strong, fast teams would not want a return to refueling...heck, they'd more than likely prefer going back to the days of no pit stops.

This, It's an added dimension.

Know that feeling you when your favorite driver comes in for tires? How costly the slightest mistake can be. Refueling old school creates even more drama!!!
