That QRuban is one of my favorite non-Islay varieties. I'm going to go w/ my version of comfort food tonight - Bruichladdich Port Charlotte - forgive the stock photo, but haven't gotten my act together for shots of the 'cellar'. The new bottles are better looking too.

Went in with 2 bottles in mind, left with 6. Saw the line to get into Total Wine and decided to just buy more all at once. Should last me a while. Bought some that were recommended in this thread by various folks. Thank you. It's a Good Friday indeed!

It was originally a 12yo, but Glenmorangie revised it recently to 14yo. I haven't picked up the 14 yet, but would love to do a side by side sometime. Cheers! |

Local store was out of Jameson's, so I defaulted back to Proper 12. While I understand and support the drive-thru only option, it does make it hard to just go in and browse the shelves like I used to.

The 14 (Green label) doesn't seem as complex, and the finish is shorter. Try the Lasanta also, they haven't screwed that one up yet. |

Damn, sorry to hear they messed with that one - it really was unique. This is why I try to buy ahead if I like something - you never know if it will change. And it is the commodities section of my portfolio. I apply man-math and view this as an investment - prices go up around 5-7% over time, so buying ahead is essentially getting that 'dividend' until I open it. The cat likes climbing on the boxes too.

There's a reason this one is going in the coffee lol. I'm still in beginning exploration of Bourbon, but this one just didn't do it for me. I won't buy this one again... I'll still give Elijah Craig Barrel Proof a chance at some point though

I started with scotch, and it's still my preference. Bourbon/American is just where I'm venturing now as far as new things to try. There are some that I enjoy, but it's hit and miss. This was one that I enjoyed! I'm not a big fan of Woodford Reserve. That became a mixer for drinks. |

If you want to ease into the direction of bourbon's you might want to try Irish whisk(e)y, sweeter than scotch but not as sweet as bourbon. Bushmills or Blackbush are both outstanding daily drinkers and very affordable so if you don't love them you're not out of pocket too much.

So we each brought a bottle of Bushmills and for each piece we took that person who took the piece had to have a drink of bushmills. It was awesome chess. |

Savages. The thing about all whisk(e)y's is that there is something for everyone and then there is also those that we don't all care for. I just don't see using any good whisk(e)y for mix. I see people ordering Crown Royal and coke and I'm like, what's the point. Use a cheap liquor for mix, it's not like you can taste or appeciate Crown Royal when it's mixed. I happen to like Woodford, and I often recommend it to people who are just getting into whisk(e)y's because it has a nice easy flavour profile.
Just my two cents. |
