Once eliminated, the best defense is a healthy lawn to crowd out weeds. Easier said than done, of course.
If you haven't tried it already you may want to give baking soda a shot. I have used it in my yard for smaller areas and it works pretty good. The only problem is obviously you will have a bare spot where the weed has died and that would have to be addressed.

Yes I have tried baking soda (ok on St. Augustine but not other grasses) and it does kill the crab grass you see but by then it has already germinated and later returns. It does leave a bare spot and tends to stress the St. Augustine for a while but doesn’t kill it. Overall it is an ok way to temporarily control it and works as well as most other products I have tried, short of spraying weed killer and replacing sod. Once it spreads to major parts of the lawn there is really no great solution in St. Augustine.

I forgot but Allyne Hayne the Lawn Care Nut did say that once the crabgrass has matured you pretty much can't kill it with any chemicals except yanking them out. There's a number of I forgot the term but I call them legs or strands when its than considered mature. I just did a blanket spray with Spectrecide to kill some dandelions that are popping up

Yard wizards (weirdos)

My little side area near my breakfast window needs some medium size coverage plants. It's a small thin area bordering a house wall area with a window. I'm going to yank out the rubbish plants currently there.

Any ideas what would be nice?

Depends on how much maintenance you are willing to take on. Rose bush, hibiscus and gardenia are all nice but each require some level of care (fertilizing, pest and disease control and pruning). Low maintenance would be a hedge common to your area. We have cocoplum on the sides of our house and it is pretty low maintenance other than trimming.

I need really low maintenance. I have a gardener because i dont wanna mess with that stuff. How about Japanese boxwood. that's apparently ok in my area.

That should work well. If you have a dog, be aware I think these plans may be toxic to them. So maybe research a bit and if that's true be sure to keep your dog away from it so they don't eat the leaves or anything.

The only dog around is a neighbor's white poodle thingy which i despise as she walks it on everyone's front lawn for some unknown reason. Another "plus" then

I didn't know either until I started watching YouTube videos on the different varieties. The more you watch the more you learn. I'm just now understanding a little bit about annuals lol

Wifey and I bought some new containers from At Home to replace some smaller containers that we end up relocating to the side of the house. they ended up being pretty heavy after filling them up!

tulips are in full bloom! had to get some more shots while they last

^^ Looking good my friend! I just found a new to me product that is supposed to revolutionize my grass/yard. I applied it yesterday and will give it a couple of weeks and see...My Pansies are still going strong with the rain and mild temps we have. I anticipate having to pull them and replant annuals in @ 2-3 weeks.

hmmmmm CarbonX? I just bought 2 bags but I gotta wait 2 more weeks before I put I down since I gotta wait about 6 weeks between Nitrogen apps. Or did you buy the N ext products? I have RGS and Humic12. My tulips are full bloom but since this is my first year i'm not exactly sure how much longer they will look like that before they are spent? maybe another week or two? do you know what kind of annuals you're going with next?
