Thank you, We in law enforcement appreciate all the support and prayers that we receive from the public. I have chosen this profession to hopefully make a difference in people's lives. We do not choose who we protect or serve. Everyone has their own opinion and I respect that. We enforce the law but we go by the spirit of the law or the letter of the law. We have 103 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty this year so far.

SLEEP TIGHT AMERICA.....WE GOT YOUR SIX.
Right on! These are my sentiments exactly.

Hopefully these don't load out of order. This didn't end very well today.

Hey Sedan, I saw this on the web, and right away thought it as something you would do; I'm talking about the cop that intercedes, and judging by your answers here. Unfortunately, for the young cop, he will have to answer for his actions, but I commend the one who deescalated the situation.

That was unfortunate. And yes he will have a very difficult time justifying his actions. The thing to understand is that even when in cuffs people can be difficult to handle. I'm not justifying what that officer did.

Dealing with actively resisting or EDP people can be challenging and very frustrating and that's likely behind his actions. Sometimes it takes an older more experienced officer to bring the calming/de-escalation to a situation like this. You need to conduct yourself in a way as though everything you do is being recorded.

I think Murf993 hit the nail on the head with his response. I don't know that I would have punched her twice; I might have applied downward pressure. I can't say because I wasn't in that situation. It's much different when you're actively involved rather than standing on the sideline.

Let me paint another picture. What if her kick had connected with that officers knee and blown it out, causing him to be IOD'd for 6+ months and requiring surgery?!?! That's what happened to one of my partners last July. He's still out of work. The situations were very similar.

There is risk in anything: what if you get in a crash and die, should you never leave the house? In cases like this you just need to use common sense; like you said "applying more pressure...". Looks to me like the officer was not worried about his safety; he just got angry and wanted a payback.

I have no issue with punching someone in cuffs when they deserve it, like this lady did. One, maybe two quick shots to make sure your point, but then you have to stop.

Agreed! But notice the guy doing the punching; he just looked like he wanted more of her. Notice his demeanor, as he had to hold himself back.

So if I was writing the Use of Force report, and I don't have the benefit of what happened in the minutes leading up to this, but what it looks like is the was kicking and he distracted her in order to gain better control and prevent her injuring him or his partner.

Is it illegal to drive drunk on my own private property? Example, if I own a few acres is it illegal to drive around my land while drunk?

Yeah, so? We have no idea what happened in the seconds to minutes before this. We are making a snap judgment based on 30 seconds of video.

Maybe he did want more.
Maybe she deserved more.
Maybe the cop is an asshole.
Maybe the woman had assaulted the cop several times already.
Maybe the woman was aggressively resisting arrest.
Maybe the cop had verbally warned her to stop fighting.
Maybe the cop just likes to punch people.

How can any of us sit here and make the assertion that the cop is right or wrong based on this short video?

As I wrote earlier, sometimes people need to be punched. And that idea can be extrapolated to "sometimes people need to be shot."

So who is the “trained” one in this instance? Based on the “short” video, why would the two cops intercede? Videos like this do not help public perception, and I don’t defend her actions, but the DA will have to decide if he should get more training, or not.

Look at the video again. Both officers were pushing the guy away. The cop was just being an asshole, for which he will have to answer for.

There is risk, but that doesn't mean we sign(ed) up to readily accept getting assaulted. Applying pressure was merely an option, but not being in that officer's shoes, I have no idea if that was truly an option for him.

No! We don't enforce traffic law(s) on private property unless the private property explicitly states the vehicle code is enforced. In the case of acting crazy on your own land......have at it.

....and therein lies the issue with body worn camera footage (...or third party cellular phone recordings). We get a 2D glimpse of a 3D situation. It doesn't tell the entire story.

The other cops stepped in to prevent their partner from going too far. One or two punches?!? Sure. A third punch might've been ruled excessive. In my opinion they were looking out for their partner. It's easy to get tunnel vision when you're feeling threatened.
