When I'm doing back moves have no problem using straps. But for deadlift it's a move at least for me that requires you hold the weight yourself it's part of the lift.

I got two lifters in...

From my limited research it was the under hand that the bicep popped.

I like double overhand, hahah

I guess the glove comment was not warranted...I just included them in my rant. I can get people not wanting to tear their hands up though.

Personally I can't wear gloves. Even working in garages through college, I just didn't have enough dexterity to work on small car parts with gloves on.

I never use a pronated grip. Always double overhand as well. Just never wanted to temp fate.

With me it's the opposite. Any other back move I train is always with weights that I can manage without straps. With deadlifts, I never put the straps on until the bar gets to 365lbs and moving up. Doing Bent Barbell Rows with 245lbs after a deadlift or Rack Pull session with 405+ feels like I'm not holding onto anything.

I have tried in the past with 405lbs with no straps, but my grip gives out after 4-5 reps or so. Plus I'm trying to focus on keeping my scapulae and lats contracted, and straps let me do that to knock out the reps I'm after.

Oh no! It's warranted and totally makes me a pansy! I accept it. I laugh about it to myself. Get this....I go to Planet Fitness, and I'm the only one there with gloves. I make fun of myself to the girlfriend about it.

.....but after the gym and showers, when I'm laying on my back, she has her thigh draped over my waist and I've got my hand on that ass.....there are no complaints.

The looks I get, from the older guys, that you can tell have had a hard life, are halfway funny but scary at the same time. You can tell I'm the type of guy they don't like. (Oddly enough, my life has probably been more rough than theirs, but I'm a resilient bastard refuse to stay down.)

I think my fiance would have far less respect for me if I had soft paws haha. She comes from a family of farmers and other blue collar jobs. If anything my hands aren't rough enough. When I gripped her father's hands for the first time I was almost ashamed of myself, those bitches felt like sandpaper. Even without wearing gloves and lifting for years my hands stay fairly soft (idk good genes maybe). Don't get my wrong I have calluses throughout my palms and fingers, but the surrounding area is fairly soft.

Probably because I'm an alternate grip guy on deads and have no problem holding the bar that way. Also do lot lower reps heavy with dead than I do other back moves like row which would be over over and make harder for me to grip.

Same here. My wife is only like 5ft tall and 110lbs. Her dad is 6'3" and her brother is 6'5" and about 260. First time I met them..I asked what happened to her (my wife).

Her brother grinned and said "We didn't let her eat". He owns a stone masonry business and gripping his hand was like grasping a brick. And my hands are pretty rough.

True story. An older dude on the elliptical took off his shorts today, and did his workout in underwear.

Although I did have a chuckle to myself, guys without pants annoy me at the gym.

Don't get me wrong, my palms are by no means soft. My hands are well calloused. Without the gloves, they turn into barbed wire palms. The gloves simply keeps the callouses from turning into, what I imagine Spider Mans palms must feel like. Which raises a serious question about Spider Mans ability to perform his Wednesday duties.....

Sciatic nerve pain annoys me.

I just tell myself I'm getting old and part of the process. Nothing a little juice injected into the butt cheek called Neuroflax can't control

I haven't gotten to needing injections yet....but I will take a 3" Paint roller with a medium to firm brush on it, and use that to rub the area down. Hurts like hell, but feels so much better afterwards!

Rollers are useless for me.

I had my vertebrae's Fused after an accident (lumbar rupture 3-5) so there's always some pressure on the sciatic nerve. But lately it's been a BITCH. I'm nervous I may have a hernia in my lumbar 1-2, but we'll see.

I don't feel a thing right now though. Love that jooooose

Had this for 6months about 2 years ago. Was warming up with 225 deadlifting and something slipped. Had terrible lower back pain and sciatic nerve pain throughout my right leg. Refused to go to the doctor because I know they would just recommend rehab. Rehabbed it myself while keeping things light, was the most frustrating injury I have ever had. Throughout the 6months even when things felt like they were getting better I would tweak it doing the most stupid shit like getting out of the car. Hopefully yours dwindles over time.

That's my main fear, having to let go of the weights.

However, I guess like you- I could focus on hypertrophy, clean the diet up and just do a slow cut for two months or so while it heals up? At least it'll "look" like I'm using baby weight because of a caloric deficit rather than my old ass acting my age
