Yea, it's all relative. I try to think about 100 feet of gain per mile is good. However, the local trails I ride around here average a bit more than than. I am not in good shape nor am I a good climber. I "attack" climbs with energy conservation in mind thus limiting me progress and gains as I do just enough to get by.

Last time I climbed to this trail non stop, I went down without resting. Big mistake. You can see how it rides the edge of a "cliff" and there were many times that I had to sit down because I was getting so tired, haha

Looks like a ton of fun! But maybe i should have clarified that i'm talking about road biking. And nothing like that around here to put the Enduro-Evo through it's paces.

Totally jelly of your off-raod "hills" of which there are really none in FL.

The best we have are made up of abandoned limestone quarries. You get some features like in your video, but nothing sustained like that. Just short little sections like 40' or so. Then climb your ass back up to do it again. Very little reward for all the repeat climbing.

But i'm with you on expending the minimum amount of energy to get to the top. Fatigue is a killer, especially on the terrain you're riding on. On my local off road terrain, it's more of just a clavicle breaker. haha

Question for everyone: how many of you lead others in your careers/corporate environments, or manage a department with direct reports?

I do, my current sociology course is actually on different leadership styles and many people in my class have not led a team before. My last job I had 17 direct reports, and it was an eye opening experience. I don't think I ever wore so many hats; mediator, arbitrator, voice, advocate, law, judge, jury, executioner.

Now I'm a high level individual contributor that doesn't necessarily have direct reports, but I have to coordinate projects and modify data for departments that require my expertise. I prefer this much more. But I know a lot of you are very successful and have lots of experience with this stuff, so I was curious.

Wow!
WAAAAYYYYY too many. 11-12 is really maxing out capacity with 7-10 being ideal, depending on industry.

I've gone back and forth between the two roles, (IC and L) and prefer the leadership role best. I love sharing information and helping people to achieve their goals. Since my parents are professors emeriti, I guess the teaching apple didn't fall far from the tree. That said, never forget that I'm an:

Depends on location. Manage 1-15ish. Sucks at times being more of a responsible party than the actual employees at a site.

Well, the team I managed was understaffed for far too long and forecasting trends had been off for so long, that I was left with no choice but to acquire more staff. I actually had to present my residual findings to senior management so those fucktards would actually listen, since management is 99% of the time clueless AF as to what actually happens in production. I'm not mad about it, it's just the way it is.

But yeah, you're an anomaly, dad.
