Doo-wop music started in the early 1950s; it was mostly black music and centered in the big cities.
I had limited exposure to doo-wop as I did not start listening a lot to pop music until 1960, but which time doo-wop was mostly on its way out, replaced by Motown soul music. But I found that I really liked doo-wop; I lived west of Baltimore 1990-2003 and Baltimore had been a center of doo-wop. I remember a Sunday evening radio show featuring rare doo-wop where listeners would phone in with requests -- Great stuff! Here are a couple of songs from doo-wop's golden age: Danleers - One Summer Night (1958) Dion and the Belmonts - I Wonder Why (1958)
