Retired (actually, fired at 56) Air Traffic Controller. I was an Air Intercept Controller in the Navy and figured as hard as it was to get two aircraft together, keeping them apart would be gravy. What I failed to grasp is they all wanted to go to the same place at the same time. I spent 34+ years breaking ties and cramming 10 pounds of aircraft into a 5 pound airport. I did get to work the busiest arrival hour LAX had, or ever will have; 135 arrivals to 4 parallel runways in an hour. There were 2 of us, and I worked about 95 of those to 3 of the runways. It was a BLAST! Been retired almost 12 years and I still miss the adrenalin rush! I did get "controllers disease" and had a double-bypass 6 years after retiring.

Also: Llama manure shoveler and retired Navy officer. (only the latter pays well.)

Around these parts, NY State sends IT auditors into school districts. At least once a month, there's a news article about some school district failing their audits due to the same basic problems (basically not off-boarding former students and employees). There must be something inherently broken in the K-12 culture if the other schools don't see these news articles and clean up their own houses before they are next to get audited! My one and only trip into our local school district buildings was for a dog-and-pony show about needing a new bond act to clean up years of deferred maintenance in the buildings. After having the vice-chair of the school board shout me down for asking too many "hurtful" questions in a public forum, I did talk with the technology person and heard first-hand how their tech stuff is a train wreck that I would not want to even try to clean up for three times what I was making at my now-former job. Seriously, every job in schools here beyond custodial and clerical requires a masters degree and wants the person to teach (or babysit special ed students) as well as work.....

Started out in another lifetime as a security guard while in High School when I turned 18. Did it until I was 21, then worked in LE for a decade. When I left I transitioned back to this industry. I have worked in many roles and capacities, but this is by far my favorite. I now have about 35 years experience in the industry.

You should consider taking some time off afterwards.
