What I mean is that they're basically catering to leasers instead of owners.

Lease is typically 36/39 months. That's what this will cover now in terms of duration.

In my E92 335 that I just traded in with 72,000 miles - I went through four brake jobs and two hand jobs (giggity).

At the great price of around $1,500 at the dealership for rotors, pads and sensors - this is a HUGE FUCKING LOSS for owners come 2017. Not to mention the wipers are like $60 a pair!!!

Other things like the quality of the oil pan, ability to change oil - must remove the front areo panels, driver door needs to be slammed shut, driver window won't go up unless you hold it, front window molding is pushed in - factory install issue. It just seems like they cut every corner possible when making it (original iPod connector in 2016 with no USB port...). It has 4K miles so hopefully a few things can get fixed during the only free oil change.
Note my wife likes driving it, Quattro is awesome in the snow, she just hates listening to me bitch about it and point things out to her.
You would think they could have worked the quality issues out since it is such an old got a deposit on a new 2017 Q7, and briefly owned the new S3.

As bitter of a pill it is to swallow (and trust me I'm not making excuses for BMW), the maint. program is still one of the better ones in the industry. If you take a look at some of the longer plans (i.e. Jaguar), maint. costs are based upon service intervals outlined in supplemental warranty booklets. Jaguar's appears to be once every year or 16,000 miles, and M-B's pay-to-play plan doesn't even cover brakes

I'd also take exception to plans like Jaguar's and VW's, whereas if you exceed the service by 1,000 miles you waive your right to it. I've yet to encounter an issue like this with BMW, which I can attest to personally (the other half is so nonchalant about vehicle maint.).

Again, this is a bit of a slap in the face. That said, if BMW decides to come out with an additional warranty which includes brakes, then I guess that's one more thing to negotiate prior to signing your life away for your next vehicle.

They have to find money to prop up the i-program. They won't see a profit from the investment for a long time.

Has nothing to do with being an enthusiast...it's thought and theory.

There's no reason to skimp on it. If they wanted to reduce the coverage period from 48 months to 36...(while I wouldn't like it) fine, I'd accept it. But to remove brakes, clutch and the other shit they did - that's simply terrible.

As I wrote above...I went through 4 brake jobs and 1 clutch in my last 335 before I traded it in. That shit adds up and will honestly make many people think twice about buying a BMW.

It seems as though you're forgetting that outside the forums...the other group of people that buy BMW's (something like the 85-90% of all BMW consumers) consider this during their decision making process.

This is a bad move. Very bad move...

Not really, every other car I've ever owned has required me to pay for this sort of stuff out of my own pocket.

While a nice perk, the free maintenance wasn't a very big selling point to me.

You are not the majority my friend... It's a HUGE selling point.

And yes - most car manufacturers do not offer covered maintenance. It's $500 for a 911 oil change...add in interval services and that shit adds up really fast.

I was buying yesterday and did again this morning - did a good job of losing some money but I've always believed "buy on the dips" and it seems to work out well in the longer run. If tomorrow is another bad day, I'll likely be buying again. At this rate, I'll never be able to get an i8.....

The fact that over 40% polled stated they 'definitely' will change brands over a little maintenance cost is what shocks me the most here.

Really??

$500 for a freaking oil change? Is that for real or does it include a bunch of other stuff. The old "inspect this and that and top off fluids" routine is a total joke in most dealerships so they must be actually "doing" something besides draining the motor and refilling the oil, right?

You've obviously never spent time on Rennlist lol

Pepper that anus my friend...the costs are staggering.

I hear if you close your eyes while they bend you over it's not so bad.

70k miles (actually I was closer to 75k when I trade in two months ago). I drive hard

I went through brakes more than I went through wiper blades.

I think that the majority of those people think this entire thing is about the WARANTEE and NOT the MAINTENANCE program and, as such, they should read the OP again.

If their decision is based on a shorter maintenance program being implemented, that a pretty drastic reaction. That said, I'm betting the warrantee WILL be shortened once BMW is done dodging the flaming arrows and things settle down - just my 2 cents

Ha. Well, I knew it was too good to be true to offer such a great warranty program for so long. Prices keep creeping up, despite the EUR to USD being about on parity, and they are cutting back on what you get. Ridiculous.

I'm glad I bought a 2002 C5 Z06 Vette and modified it for the track instead of getting an M3/4. The level of performance is crazy better, and for a fraction of the cost. I'm going to buy a new Ford Explorer Limited instead of a new 5 series now. The new 2016 Explorer model is AMAZING! I had a rental of it and it blew me away. 5 series class quality all around; plus I can freakin tow my Vette to the track and hold 7 people!

free maint was the deciding factor when I bought my m4, the new program will definitely factor into my next decision which will be in about 18 months for a new suv.

I mean 60$ for a pair of wipers isin't much. Have you gone to advance or autozone? The "good" brand comes out to 26 a piece so throw in taxes and you're at the same price? people who complain about things like that digust me. lol Pay to play bro.
