Great choice, Specialized has really done a great job with the Roubaix bikes, you should enjoy that for years.

tell me what you guys think. im not a hardcore rider so i wont be blowing hundreds on equipment just yet
The only thing I would recommend looking at is one of the Garmin X05 computers. A lot more data than the Astrale and you can use them for other sports like running, hiking, etc.

My current road bike

I also have a Merlin Magia that I have not built up yet. I stopped riding on the road a few years ago and have not gotten back into it. It is too easy to ride my mountain bike when I have decent single track 45 seconds from my garage.

Hey guys just noticed this thread I just started riding a few months ago... picked up a 2009 Fuji newest 4.0 in mid July for like $200 (cheapest road bike i could find) didnt wana spend much until I decided if i liked it or not.

Got hooked pretty quickly.

upgrades:
Cateye strada
Shimano R540 clipless pedals
bottle cages
spare tube and c02 inflator

planning to pick up a 2010 Fuji Roubaix ACR 2.0 around Christmas time. I figure by then itll be time for a proper road bike

any suggestions on places to get cheap jerseys and shorts?

Which screws?

Doesn't work is a little vague, what will it/won't it do?

Humm, does the pedal feel loose?

Does the computer power up, does the display show anything, can you return it?

I get my clothes from here.

http://www.velowear.com/

If you look at their basic solid colored stuff it actually is pretty inexpensive. $30-40 for a jersey and about the same for shorts. Far cry from what you'd pay for other brand names.

Their stuff seems to be of good quality and is pretty comfortable.

Went for a ride this morning... pretty chilly at about 50F, but I had arm and leg warmers so it wasn't too bad. Though I think I'm going to get to invest in some full-fingered gloves and some thicker socks for these cooler mornings.

On a semi related noted I got yelled at (really bitchy like) by some asshole that I should "get a light". I believe he was referring to a headlight, because I did have a functioning tail light at the time. I was at the top (coming down) of a small hill and he was on the street heading perpendicular to my direction.. I saw him way before he saw me, so I think it was just a knee jerk reaction by him.

I actually do have a headlight, but it's broken (new one due in early next week), but damn. I was on a MUP that was fully lit and he was on a street (fully lit). I was a good 40-50 yards out and rapidly slowing down because he (the asshole rider) had rolled through a stop sign that crosses the MUP I was on... and he yells at me? I mean why all the hostility? It was 5:45 in the morning for God's sake.

For a second it seemed like he was waiting on me at the bottom of the hill so he could "tell me all about it", but as I was coming down I think he realized that I was about 3x his size and started to quickly ride off.... Apparently my 6' 3" 260lb frame (built like a line-backer) fully wrapped in Lycra is pretty scary sight.. haha.

Why are some riders like this? IMO there is no grey area with cyclists... they are either cool as fuck, or are complete stuck up, uber competitive douche nozzles with insane napoleon complexes coupled with some major entitlement issues.
