Torchlight is a game that I've found enjoyable and reminds me of Diablo II...

It's only $5 if you buy it today, you can play the demo before hand if you like. All you have to do is get Steam if you don't already have it.

Isn't it single player? One of the big draws to Diablo for me is playing with friends. Playing Diablo alone has always been dreadfully boring for me.

It is single player (doesn't bother me that much). The part that bothers me is that stats don't have that much of an effect. I'm playing on Hard Mode as a Vanquisher and although I level up, I only allocate the points when I get an armor/weapon that I want to equip (need certain points). Haven't died yet and do sufficient damage.

It's either the game is too easy, or the stats don't really have any real penalty for being a "jack of all trades" type character. I'm playing ranged, so no real need for anything but Dexterity and some Defense points. I only use Ricochet (uses hardly any mana), and an occasional dervish spell (the one that increases attack speed).

I found a "rare" rifle fairly early on doing tons of damage (one hit everything but bosses until level 20 something).

It's a fun game, but Diablo it is not. That said, $5 is a steal for it.

Yeah, I can see what you mean about the stat points...

Not sure how far you are, but once you get to this one boss he is a bitch to kill. Haven't killed him yet, although I've died so many times. I think I am gunna go level up some more and then try and come back to him. Btw I'm like lvl 27 or so.

For all of you new players to Torchlight, there is a minor cheat in the game by default. This sort of trumps the need to find and acquire new and better loot, but the enchant item function can be applied as many times as you like to a weapon. While it gets progressively more expensive, it is cheaper to buy a green item off a vendor and upgrade it than it is to find a Orange item and then enchant it. (Rares are typically several times more expensive to enchant.)

Also, I'll add that enchanting can fail. And a failed enchants strips your weapon clean of all mods. But fear not, as the game only saves when you transfer zones via portal you can just crash your game, and it will reload at the point after your last portal transfer. If done correctly, you will re-enter at the point of first returning back into town.

Have fun, and use this sparingly as it could trivialize the entire game. (They may have patched some of this though, as my copy is the original version.)

Interesting. I may add that using the Console to spawn items, give yourself money, or really do anything 'cheatlike' will label you as "_____ the Cheat" and will remove your shared stash from town. I think it's kind of lame for them to do that, if I want to goof around in the console then that should be my own choice.

I learned this the hard way lol, but I was able to restore the shared stash and remove the title from my name after poking around a bit on the Runic Games forums.

I used MSPaint as well, it's easier/faster than Photoshop. I'm surprised at how low the requirements are to run this game, and how good it looks/smooth it animates. One of my video cards crapped out on me earlier, so I'm only running half what I usually do as far as GPU power.
