Tekken 6
Picked it up after work today. Played it for a bit...something about it doesn't feel right. It's not as bad as 4, but definitely not as good as 5.
Anyone else got it?

Played it for a little bit tonight; for some reason, I think Tekken 5 actually looked better!
I put in practice mode and started up with my usual character. All of my old combos work, and some moves are actually easier to pull off than before. I'm a Mishima user (Jin, Kaz, Hei), and I can now pull off the "Dorya!" hit more frequently than I ever could before. There's a few things about Tekken 6 I'm not liking. First, to get prologues and endings, you have to play the story mode (never really liked it in any of the past Tekkens anyway). In story mode, you have to unlock the characters, then enter them in "Arena" where you view their prologue, fight a few characters, and unlock that character's endings (some have more than one). All of the characters start off unlocked for arcade mode. Arcade mode however, doesn't yield prologues or endings. It's just fighting ghosts from people online. Online play is mixed. If the connection is good, the match is ok. If the connection is bad, it's more a matter of who has more patience, or can spam down + LK/RK.

There's a few more things I'm finding I'm not liking; 50 second load times FTL! This rage thing that occurs when a characters health falls below a certain amount. It basically helps you juggle longer or if you have an attack that normally knocks to the ground, it bounces them off the ground so you can juggle. There's a few videos online showing 100% damage juggles using rage - in other words taking someone down from full health.
It's a bad idea, IMO. I would pass on this game if I didn't already own it. I didn't think much of SFIV, but compared to this, I love SFIV. Tekken 5 > Tekken 6.

5 minute load times on Forza FTMFL!
I knew Tekken 6 would be bad when I first fired it up. It caused my PS3 to crash. I had to turn the switch off in the back to get it to turn off. It seems to hurt my eyes too. I only played it yesterday, and I'm still at work (workin til 7 tonight...everyone else is gone...God, I hate my job, but then I digress). My eyes have felt kind of funky all day.

Got a couple of character endings...though Tekken has never had really great story/plot lines, the visuals have always been good. Once again, Tekken 5 > Tekken 6 in every way. Visually, 5's endings were better, and although previously stated the plot/story has always been pretty bad, 5's endings beat out 6's here too. 5 at least felt like it had a bad story; 6 is just wtf!
There are some new moves. This is good to mix it up and catch friend's off-guard. Jin for example now has a mid-mid-low combo. That extra low hit really helps on a friend who turtles all the time. He can't hope to block low all the time either, since those mids will tag him. He'll actually have to learn to watch for that one and block. Still don't like the rage system though. I'm not the only one saying it hurts my eyes either. Another friend sent me a message saying he had to stop playing because his eyes were getting blurry after about 45 minutes.

I didn't like Tekken 4 because it controlled like Soul Calibur. Up and down meant you stepped into the foreground or background (like Soul Calibur). They didn't give you a block button, so you couldn't just up + block to jump either. It was always a jump with attack. I didn't like the uneven ground. There were certain stages where you could really take advantage of being on higher/lower ground for certain stages.
Tekken 4 had that one stage that was inside of the building where you fight on the roof with a statue towards the back of the stage. That stage looked beautiful. The outdoor jungle stage with the small river was really well rendered too. I would actually say graphically, Tekken 4 looked cleaner than 5. I did like the stage where you're outside, and there were telephone booths. You could nail an opponent up to one and smash them through it. I hated the indoor mall stage, and the stage that was in a factory with a foggy ground: that one had a dip in the middle and raised up on both sides. IMHO, Tekken 5 is the best to date, but has a clear tier set up. Bryan Fury (played as a turtle), Steve Fox, Mishima's, etc.

Tekken 4 was the last one that I ever played (played 1-4). I still thought it was a pretty good game. Lots of beautifully designed stages with a few lame ones thrown in.
I really should get around to playing 5, but with MW2 coming out I don't think I will have much time for Tekken. |

Just played Tekken 6 online for the first time. The lag really kills it. In Street Fighter IV, when one player lagged, it lagged the match. In Tekkn 6, when one player lags, the other doesn't. It's not about your internet connection, but the distance away from each other and who's hosting. I've played matches where I felt like the other player wasn't even trying to do anything. But if you stepped back and waited, you'd see them trying to pull stuff off.
I've found that if you're the player not lagging, go ahead and dish out your combos. But if you're the lagging player, you can win or at least frustrate your opponent by pressing down and right kick repeatedly. It moves you forward a little bit everytime, hits low and fast, and ducks highs. You can be hit by a well timed mid, but given the lag, you'll win most of the time doing this.

If you want to win online、 and you don't care about being a complete prick about it, just choose any character who doesn't have a special down+rk.
Spam down+rk. Press it even if you don't see your character doing it right away due to lag. The lag will make it impossible for your opponent to get any hit in (unless they're a projectile character or a character with a far reaching mid hit). You will win by kicking them in the shins repeatedly.

I will say this though: it is a really, really easy Platinum Playstation Trophy to get. Easier than Resident Evil 5.

It's not THAT bad, but just disappointing since Tekken 5 was really good; and online play is really THAT bad.

Good to know, I own Tekken 5 Online and I was wondering whether it was worth spending 59.99+tax. I played Tekken 6 briefly at gamespot where I owned some kid with Hworang. It looked better than Tekken 5 to me...but tahts about it.
I like Tekken 5. |
