bleed through car shots

Hey guys, i was just wondering what was the process of creating/editing a photo so i could make it look like this.....

as far as i could imagine in my head i think i need 2 shots, one with the open hood and another one with closed and then you photoshop just the hood onto a car but, thats just my guess.
can anyone please send me a link or just explain step by step how to do it ??

thank you

That's pretty much how it's done. The photo with the hood closed would be the top layer and you can just drop the opacity of that layer as much as you want. Depending on camera shake (and assuming you are on a tripod), you may or may not need to erase everything on the top layer except for the hood. The slightest misalignment will cause a ghosting effect in the image.

it also appears they did multiple exposures with the hood open:
the lights would not have been that bright compared to the amount of light on the ground (albeit a bit cloudy). and also the detail is pretty high in the shadows under the hood - definitely at least two, maybe three, exposures for the open hood frame.

give it a try! there was no flash used - so catch some diffused (slightly overcast) late morning or early evening light with the car aimed in the right direction.
