pc - first choice is avid media composer software.
but you'll need to convert the avchd files before importing them. -try searching avchd convert quicktime. this way u can convert the file and have more options for basic non-linears. lot of times ur pc will come with a basic video editing program. for a more serious non-linear. --AVID, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier good luck- happy editing.

Your computer is fully capable of editing HD video.
When I was using a PC, I LOVED working on a program called "Vegas." I've since then moved on to a Mac with FCP. Give Vegas a shot - it's capable of doing a lot and very very simple to use, but do check to see if it supports your video format. As for Avid - I've never actually used Avid, but I've heard that it isn't easy to operate. |

if u work on FCP u can operate the AVID. and AVID media management is far better than FCP. -- now i'm taking cheap shots at ur post kamek, you know i'm teasing. if u did not know, the same person that help develop the Avid helped on FCP. With any non-linear there is a learning curve, and basic steps do not change. Like mark in and out and overcut and insert edit. Vegas is another decent non-linear as well as imovie or final cut express for the mac. I would say let the OP dig around a bit more and experiment with editing software that may have come with his pc first before venturing into a sea of non-linear software. to answer short, yes. with any convert u will and it's very little depending on what compression setting you use. What will you be using the video for? will it be for personal home use, the web, big screen at a car show, to air on TV?
