Are security camera's pointed into the street, directly in front of our house illegal? If not, what are some good, cheap ones? How are they recording information, computer HD, etc?

They're throwing another party tonight...we pulled all of our cars (except 2 that won't fit) into the driveway.
We all have to be at work, or school tomorrow morning and can't be bothered with waiting up and watching. My mom dismisses it as random acts, but myself, my sister, and my father all think it's too coincidental. It NEVER happens on nights they don't have a party, and it happens maybe 4/5 when they do.

A truely dedicated security camera that would record to a DVR either wirelessly or hardwired would run a few hundred dollars at least.

I don't think a web cam out to the street will have sufficient lighting. My main issue with a security camera would be the law. Namely, is it illegal to have a security camera from my house pointed out towards the street (possibly invading another homes privacy)? I would think so, though I'm not expert.
The last thing I would want, honestly, is for it to turn into some kind of face to face confrontation, with a bunch of drunkards who do something stupid.

It's only illegal if you show it to people. You can set some up just to confirm for yourself who exactly is causing trouble. Also, you are probably fine if the camera is only recording your property and public space (your driveway, the sidewalk where you're parked, etc). Just don't record the other person's house.

which houses are getting targeted? Yours and the one across the street? If so, yea, that's too coincidental, and nothing works like that. Are you in Japan or the states? In the states, I don't think it's illegal to have a camera? I mean, if you point it to your driveway and your segment of the street, what's the others to say? Plus, its not invasion of privacy because it's not like you're pointing it straight at someone's window!
