No Sh&t!!! Regardless, I'm not convinced that the warranty will be all that necessary. Let's face it, aside from the HPFP what else really brings us into the shop that requires this crap anyway. I've owned several cars that have never had a visit that I couldn't handle for less than a $100. I'd hope this 40+ K ride holds the same! Warranty, like insurance, is just a scam we all pay into that pays very little if any dividends.

get in touch with a lawyer....
the mere threat of legal action may make them reconsider....this IS bullshit....the MF'in Sales associate shouldn't have told you to keep the mods in...... Contact a Lawyer.

OP: Ensure that guy who wrecked your car loses his job, for starters. When you go down to talk, use the magic words. Lawyer. Magnusson-Moss. BBB are usually good initials to toss out there too. Explain to them that there is a history of the failure of a defective part, and that if they can't understand your explanation, your lawyer will be happy to explain in further detail. That should do the trick. They wrecked your car, said they'd play ball and ignore your mods to have a defective part repaired, and then voided your warranty on a defective part? That is suprememly messed up.

At any rate, an isolated superknock code is VERY different from 50, and 10 reapearing on startup. Unless there was a MAJORLY botched pin out install I just couldn't see that happening. Also, when I said high boost on street gas, I meant 17.5 psi on 93 octane. I find it HIGHLY unlikely that if that didn't cause a superknock code, 14psi would.

It doesn't. They just offer to give you BMWNA's number so that you can discuss it with them.

It seems that a lot of the people are ignoring the fact of the HPFP already being a masjor problem for many owners, with and without tunes. There has been a "soft recall" , and NHTSA Investigation, and some owners have gone through more pumps than they have gone through tires.
True, the tune shouldhave been removed, we all know that, and I am sure the OP knows very well at this point, but it is somethingt that, based on the history of the car and part, would have probably happened anyway. I think that after they do the work necessary and if they start to push towards the tune, the history could be helpful. The fact that the part has a very high failure rate, and repeat failure rate as well as a bulletin that says to replace them in all cars in a specified build date range whenever they are in for anything shows the part to be substandard. "PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS"

Even stock cars can have numerous amount of codes, esp with a failing HPFP and such. Defend your warranty get the codes that they are trying to deny your warranty with that directly link the JB3. I really cant see the JB3 throwing any codes when some members even rn Map6 o 91 octane without any issues, unless you did something we dont know.
P.s. i have heard some members on stock cars throw superknock codes. Pretty heavy modded car could have throw codes from differenty mods that were put on.

Okay so I understand that you were on a busy highway and all but, why would you just not bite the bullet and have the car towed to your house, remove your mods, then call bmw?
I would imagine 100 bucks for towing is better then having your warranty voided. Never listen to a SA who doesn't know more about the car then yourself.

Just to be clear, it was the Assistant Service Manager that told me to just bring it in (with regard to the tunes). Not the Sales douche.

A big part of the issue is that the dealer stated the mods were a non issue. And I think BMW would rather shell out for a new pump than risk the bad publicity, just like the oc retrofit.

The only person you listen to is the Tech. The sales asistants, managers, etc. Have no idea about cars. They are the worst person to trust. It is the Tech that inspects and completes the work on your car and is the only one that can tell the SA what aftermarket performance mods you have on your car. If I have to say anything, become very good friends with a TECH, which I have since he is a friend of a friend.
Tiping SA's, managers or whoever else that is not a Tech is not worth the money. Give the Tech the money you would also tip on the SA. |

I would understand if it was something the OP did, but Fuel pumps have been failing forever on these cars. BMWNA should back up there mistakes.
If his turbos blew, different discussion. P.s. That dealer sounds like it has some smart guys running it (your cars bumper)
