How about a hybrid diesel 335?! That should get about 50 miles to the gallon easy. Now that would be the ultimate driving machine for me!

Hybrid diesels? If they work. Seem like a lot of hardware to me. Had we been driving fuel efficient vehicles, similar to Euro, for the past 5 or 10 years we would not be in this pickle. Hindsight is 20-20. But imagine what we will be saying 5 or 10 years from now if we do not start making sensible changes. I was surprised, shocked really, when walking by the TV with the Daily Show (aka John Stewart) that the wife was flipping by, and Trent Lott was being interviewed, and he said something to the effect that we have got to wise up and switch from SUVs and pickups. What a sea change; Trent Lott dumping on gas hogs! That was the stimulus for the conversation with my neighbor (I was driving my fuel efficient Kubota diesel tractor at the time -- lord help us if we have to start driving those to work... ) Maybe it was something he drank in the NY water. BMWNA needs to get him a test drive in an E90. Or an X5 with a diesel -- I must say that seems like such a sensible market, SUVs with diesels. Soccer moms are tougher than auto companies give them credit for. How does that play in Euro? What is the engine mix for the Xs over there (and Oz and RSA...)?

Sure is funny! But that's ok, I'm about to wake up any minute now, so let the price go to $20.00 per gallon. See if I care!
I don't know if this has to do with Katrina or what, but this whole thing is putting a serious strain on my driving plans. The new prices of gas is a significant, yet somewhat unexpected expense I hadn't considered when looking to buy a new car a few months ago. I never thought this was something to consider I mean I knew prices would go up...I had no idea they'd be this much. The price I pay to fill up my tank is getting to be more than the payments I make on the car every month. Last edited by deutschmann59; 05-12-2006 at 03:52 PM.. |

Yea yea i know your all saying "quit bitching, if you could afford the car, gas shouldnt be a big deal" Um lol, i afforded the car BARELY and now the gas may put me over the edge lol.

Picked up my car on July 30th. Filled er up for the first time @ $2.34
Filled er up Yesterday @ $3.39. OUCH!!! $1.05 in one month. I think it is a plot against all of us who just picked up our cars to discourage us from driving them!!!!!

Here in central Jersey, on Tuesday all the stations around me that aren't on the highway were closed with no gas. Today I was with my friend and he tried to get gas at two places before getting it at the third...they had no regular left.

I thought BellasBMW summed up my feelings too. Now, I just coast as much as I possibly can. I avoid touching the gas pedal as best I can. |
