is 768Kbps fast enough for home use?

trying to cut down my cost here and thinking of downgrading, is 768Kbps enough for me? I only uses it to browse e90post, download music sometimes, I always have 2 users including myself. Will the download time be a lot slower? And how abut the 2 users are browsing the internet at the same time? Is it a noticeable difference? Thanks

i see your living in NY. my house hold had major changes to costs money and the savings are pretty high.

1. internet, phone, and tv: optimum triple play basically $100 for all 3 services, great phone rates, and cable internet. plus you get the rewards card, best thing being x2 free tickets tues at clear view cinemas .

2. light bulbs: changed all of them to the saving ones (forgot name)

3. auto/home: changed auto and home insurance and this alone savings are $2.5-3k year.

4. cell phone: 4 users went from verizon to tmobil and that is another $50 month in savings.

For regular web surfing you probably won't notice the difference. Downloads will be slower from fast sites. You'll be surprised on how much of yoru download bandwidth doesn't get used. Latency and other factors are more important.

google "speed test". You'll find a few sites that will tell you what you get at your current connection. From there, on your own, you can figure out if more/less will be sufficient.

music downloads will slow down. General surfing will be fine. 2 users downloading music will be s-l-o-w.

Just think about this... If you remember 56kbps... this is about 14 times faster. Slow DSL is about 1.5Mbps. So it's just okay. If you were ever on a modem before, than this will be acceptable.

So what are you downgrading from? What is the savings?

from 7mbps, saving would be from $50 to $30 a month

Is the $20 really worth it? If you think about it that's packing your lunch a couple days then eating out everyday. The savings is about .64 cents a day over a full 31 day month.

There are other saving that are more substantial then $20 a month. That is unless you've cut everything else back and your internet connection is next on the block.

Depends on what you are using it for. I'm currently on a 10MB line and everything is great for me.

2. will do that ! The bulbs are a couple more $$ a piece then normal bulbs and you may not see an immediate savings
3. will look for new auto insurance to compare this week!good idea, insurance companies are such a rip off
4. same as you 4 people family plan with AT&Tyour prolly locked into a plan but why not check other providers, their family plan could be better, you never know.
