BMW Not starting (please help)

Hello everybody I have a 2020 bmw m850 and I went outside to start it this morning and it sounds like it wants to start but it’s not cranking and I got these codes… I’m guessing I need to replace the starter??? Anybody have these issues before or any other suggestions I should try first before buying a new starter???

Sounds like it wants to start but it's not cranking? What sounds does the engine (car) make then?

And what codes did you get?

If the car's electronics come alive in a normal fashion but the engine does not crank that can be due to several things: A low battery/faulty battery cables/connections; faulty ignition switch; transmission sensor bad -- the engine controller doesn't know the transmission is in P (or N); bad starter solenoid; bad brake switch (the engine controller doesn't recognize the brake is applied); or in the case of a manual equipped car the clutch pedal interlock switch is bad; the keyfob RFID is faulty.

If there is a click when you try to start the engine that can be low battery/bad cabling/connections; bad starter solenoid switch or the solenoid works and moves the starter pinion gear into mesh with the ring gear but the switch that should then be closed to cause the starter to crank doesn't work.

If everything appears normal but the engine cranks and doesn't fire that is often due to a bad fuel pump. Too often -- and I'm guilty of this -- one doesn't really pay attention to what if any sound the fuel pump makes when things work right and thus may not realize the fuel pump is quiet. Also some cars have fuel pumps one can hear while other cars the fuel pump is quieter.

It honestly sounds almost like a grinding noise and won’t crank up I got the codes 216119 “pinion starter : line break starter control (KL50/KL30)”
21B100 “Pinion starter, CC repeat start attempt message activated
24000B “timeout data EWS”
I actually got the car to start after multiple attempts of starting… I took it for a drive it felt like it drove normal it ran good didn’t cut off at all when I got home I shut it up and tried to start back up and it started doing the same thing A very loud grinding noise almost

Grinding noise from a car engine/car is not a good sound. Ever.

Unless you want to are capable of fixing this on your driveway (which (surprise.... NOT) probably will require a new starter) time to get the car to a qualified shop for a professional's diagnosis and repair.

Appreciate the help man I actually fixed the issue over the week I installed downpipes to the car and I made a rookie mistake of taking off a bracket that held the stock catalytic converter on not thinking I needed it anymore and it’s actually what held the starter in place also… appreciate the help though!!!
