F1 2024: US GP - Las Vegas (Nov 24)

F1 2024: US GP - Las Vegas (Nov 24)

Circuit:

Las Vegas Strip Circuit

Las Vegas
When was the track built?

The 2023 Formula 1 season saw drivers tackle an all-new circuit in Las Vegas, encompassing the very best the City of Lights has to offer – including the famous Strip.
When was its first Grand Prix?

Las Vegas previously staged two F1 races – under the Caesars Palace Grand Prix moniker – in 1981 and 1982. It played host to the season finale on both occasions, with Williams driver Alan Jones winning the 1981 race and Michele Alboreto taking his maiden F1 victory for Tyrrell at the 1982 encounter. Meanwhile, Nelson Piquet and Keke Rosberg clinched the title in ’81 and ’82 respectively with fifth-place finishes.
What’s the circuit like?

Located in the heart of Las Vegas, the new 6.2km, 17-turn street circuit winds its way past iconic locations like Caesars Palace, the Bellagio and the Venetian. With average speeds similar to Monza, otherwise known as F1’s ‘Temple of Speed’, fans are guaranteed plenty of action and overtaking.
Why go?

There continues to be a huge buzz around the Las Vegas Grand Prix, fuelled by 2023's spectacular inaugural event that gave drivers and fans a taste for more. With the party atmosphere the resort city is famous for, a Saturday night race under the lights and entertainment off track to match the action on it, this is one of the events to attend on the Formula 1 calendar. Check out our Event Guide for more.
Where is the best place to watch?

A host of ticketing options are available for the Las Vegas weekend, ranging from VIP packages to grandstand seating and general admission. But whatever you go for, a spectacular experience awaits – as cars blast around a high-speed circuit set against one of the most vibrant backdrops F1 has ever seen.

So what are your predictions?
After last week's incredible dominant drive from Max Verstappen, he's the favorite again for winning the WDC. In fact, he could win the WDC at the Las Vegas GP.
Liberty Media/Formula One Group would certainly like that as the Las Vegas GP is their pinnacle in promotion of their product. Maybe that's also the reason Mr. Herbert won't be joining the Stewards team anymore.
However, the track has long fast straights, and it's unlikely to rain. Will this favour Max and the RB20, or will the McLaren car be dominant again with Ferrari as a strong runner up?
This is my prediction:
1. NOR
2. LEC
3. PIA
4. VER
5. SAI
6. HAM
7. PER
8. RUS
9. HULK
10. LAW

I agree that some of the veterans do really need to step aside as there are a lot of good looking rookies right now, Bottas probably being one. But it's just a bummer seeing someone go from podiums and wins to back of the pack. It's clear that car sucks this year and I wonder where Bottas would be if he had been able to snag a seat in Alpine or Haas instead of Sauber. Probably would be an entirely different discussion. Maybe he'll get a drive or two next year.

I mean there have been instances where the car looked ok but he hasnt really performed. The Alpine was way worse than the Sauber at the start of the season but they still managed better finishes than Bot.

I just am at the point where guys like Ric, Bot, Per, and could argue others are just taking up space when there are so many F2 winners just waiting around. I do think Ham and Alo need to go too.

These younger drivers are just so much more talented than we have seen in a long time - and that started with Max who just came in and was as fast as the fastest car without much experience.

I imagine Ferrari will be good here, but Max has a new engine that I am sure they are not holding back with it - Lec's not been lighting it on fire in pace lately...plus we still have yet to see the RB20's new flexi front wing (hope they debut it here) and believe they will bring upgrades. I hope they stay 3rd in the WCC because that extra wind tunnel and CFD is going to really be needed and Mclaren and Ferrari are going to lose quite a bit which may be a huge detriment to their development next year.

Interesting thought... RB sabotaging Checo's car so they can get more wind tunnel time for the 2026 car wouldn't surprise me... would make sense why they keep him around, because they know they're the ones screwing him over.
