Is ISTA capable of function testing components

Good day,

Vehicle: 2020 X3M with iDrive6

The "BC" button on the steering column does nothing when I push it. Usually the dash displays total vehicle and trip milage. Sometimes after coding it will display MPG data or direction of travel for a short time but eventually it goes back to total vehicle and trip milage.

I have performed a full vehicle scan in ISTA and have no errors.

Is there any way for me to function test the "BC" button with ISTA?

Thanks

Jeff

Problem fixed, ISTA helped

The problem was a broken wire going to the BC button. I already had a thread asking for help with the specific problem.. so I updated the detail of my repair using ISTA here:

Great diagnosis! Man, ISTA beats those days when one had to look at schematics and use a VOA meter. Good job!

That wire looks cut. Was anyone in there previously? Any sharp metal edges on the column that would cut it?

The wire did look cut, maybe it was that way when brand new? I just bought the vehicle used. I noticed the BC button did not work during test drives but thought I needed to set something up in iDrive.. that was not the case !!

Upon initial view, it took a bit for me to see the broken wire, it was twisted together with all other wires. There was some discoloration on the wires in this area, not sure if it was heat or just the friction of them being tugged around when ever the stalk was used for signaling a turn.
