How many years have you been daily driving it? Maybe your mechanic has gotten it pretty well sorted out by now. Have the timing chains and valley pan gasket been done?

That being said I have finally found a rust free E30 325e in original henna under a 100K in mileage for 6.5K It's going to need everything in the engine compartment gone through but I love a nice smaller car that is enjoyable to drive.
I nearly bought an E46 Touring vs a the E91, but the E91 having more hp/tq and lighter in weight was the driving factor. I don't need to bring my granddaughter with me and she's 10 so she doesn't quite fit in an E30 anymore since she is nearly 5 foot. So this is a me car vs a family car. |

If he did the timing chain guides, he did the valley pan gasket. That is one of the big jobs on the V8 so you won’t have to worry about that. Still plenty of other things to break or wear out, but hopefully your DIY skills will grow to match the car’s needs.
I had two 25 year old BMWs for years (79 635csi and 73 Bavaria) and drove them occasionally. Still have two (99 M3 and 75 2002) and don’t drive them much anymore. It is regular work and expense to maintain old cars. I also have two younger ones that I am still responsible for maintaining and repairing, a 2012 X3 xdrive2.8i and a 2008 535xi wagon, both of which are primary drivers for the family and friends that we gave them to. I much prefer to drive my F90 M5. |
