How many years have you been daily driving it? Maybe your mechanic has gotten it pretty well sorted out by now. Have the timing chains and valley pan gasket been done?

That being said I have finally found a rust free E30 325e in original henna under a 100K in mileage for 6.5K It's going to need everything in the engine compartment gone through but I love a nice smaller car that is enjoyable to drive.

I nearly bought an E46 Touring vs a the E91, but the E91 having more hp/tq and lighter in weight was the driving factor.

I don't need to bring my granddaughter with me and she's 10 so she doesn't quite fit in an E30 anymore since she is nearly 5 foot. So this is a me car vs a family car.

Consider the dream on hold. Thank you all for your ideas.
OP, you listened to too many people and their negative comments. The the E83 is an E46, which is one of BMW's more reliable models. If you passed on it because of some stupid idea the plastics are shot, that's not realistic. I have three BMWs at the moment, the oldest is a 1997 Z3 and the newest is a 2008 Z4. The third is a 2006 E90. Total mileage on all three is 746,000 miles. When it was 20 years old we took the Z3 out West on a 7,000-mile 12-day road trip.

I'd jump all over an E83 with just 18,000 miles, the thing is brand new as far as wear goes. Age doesn't hurt these cars as much as you think. My other two BMWs I've had were a '89 E30 we had for 18 years and 256,000 miles, and a '05 E46 convertible that I bought at 100,000 miles in late 2019 and sold in early 2022 with 135,000 miles on it.

My 2 cents.
