It’s not a bad choice for a DIYer who prefers older cars, but I generally would not recommend a 20 year old car as a daily driver to a normal person unless it is a really goodj deal and the person has a convenient, honest, local independent shop to depend on.

I know. I received some good private messages as well showing me the pros and cons of this thing. I just don’t think I’m cut out for the grind of things failing. It’s a great car for someone handy which I am really not under the hood

I know- I’ve now re-examined and the seller understands I need to back out.

With two young children I’m responsible for- I need something newer that will not be in the shop as this needs to be my primary car.

What model do you suggest? The turbo 6 and 4 cylinders seem to be a bit of a mess?

Toyota and Lexus are the most reliable cars. Toyota RAV or Highlander depending on the size you need or Lexus RX350 or RX450. I would also take a look at the Genesis GV70.

BWMs are good cars with a little more performance feel if buying a performance or sport model. The current turbo 4 and 6 are good and reliable motors. I have BMW and Porsche but you pay a premium to buy, a premium to service, a premium for parts, and a premium for gas. I recommend Toyota and Lexus to most people, especially those concerned about maintenance and repair costs. They are better cars than the more pedestrian BMWs in my opinion.

That's probably a good idea. Sometimes there's nothing you can do and other people crash into you. My wife had a girl in a corolla.spin.out into her, she was stopped at a red light and this girl lost control going around a very slight turn and ran into the side of our car. There was nothing my wife could have done to avoid it. We were lucky, some people get hit HARD by drugged out or drunk or distracted drivers and aren't as lucky.

BMWs have been focused on safety since the early 00s, but that's also an area that has made big strides since the early 00s. If you found something in a 2010ish X5, it'd be significantly safer vs that early X3.
