For my Suntory collection I currently have the Harmony, Harmony 30th Anniversary Special Design, Hakushu 12yr, Yamazaki 12yr, Yamazaki 18yr and Yamazaki 2016 Sherry Cask Edition.
I do like it and consider it the pick of their core range, better than the over oaky 30 yr even. But generally I prefer the Yamazaki single malts, and then the Hakushu range over all Hibikis. The Yamazaki 18 Mizunara cask and the regular 18 being my favorites. Also have the Sherry cask 2016, and it is the best Yamazaki and indeed one of the best sherried whiskies I've ever tasted.

I do like the regular 18yr as well and oddly enough that was my very first bottle of Japanese Whiskey. I still have not opened my Sherry Cask yet but good to know you like it. I will open it eventually

Good luck. IDK what year you are looking for but Pappy is almost always going to be marked up. I got a bottle of 23yr for $265 bucks but I had to call in a favor from Preston Van Winkle himself to even get a bottle here. THEN, the store I always go to & they know me & my family, gave me the bottle for $20 over wholesale...I got lucky. I have seen that bottle go for like 3 grand

Damn! That's quite the list! These would be my top 5 choices:

1. Michter's 20 year
2. Buffalo Trace Antique Vertical
3. Pappy Van Winkle Vertical
4. William Larue Weller
5. Pappy 15 year

THere isn't one on there I wouldn't buy at those prices.....there are a few I'd flip nearly immediately....and go buy the damn ohlins for my car with the profit.

Any of the Pappy bottles, the DOUBLE EAGLE VERY RARE BOURBON or the Mitchers if you just want the biggest return. And verticals of course.

These are my favorite to drink:

Collection has grown quite a bit since I used to post in the thread.

Bourbon has taken over as the preference. Cheers!

I should rent it out, but I don't know that it would cover the whisky budget

I still reminisce about the Lag Offerman Guinness Cask edition. That was a good one. Still have one bottle unopened.

My wife and I are going to Louisville / Lexington in a couple of weeks. I have tastings scheduled at Angel's Envy on Friday, Mitcher's early Saturday and Buffalo Trace in the afternoon. I'm hoping to score a couple of harder to find bottles when there. For the Bourbon aficionados, anyplace you'd recommend we check out while down there?

I live in Cincinnati, about 1.5 hours from Louisville/Lexington. Over the years I've spent a lot of weekends in Louisville, not much time in Lexington. Buffalo Trace has stuff put out each day. Lots of other distilleries, I've been to a number of them. I liked Wild Turkey & Maker's a lot, mainly for the grounds/tours. As far as finding rare bottles at liquor stores, good luck, probably the most shopped area in the country. Lots of good bars in Louisville, Whiskey Row has bars/restaurants including Old Forester - good tour (close to Angel's Envy - I've never been but hear good things), Doc Crow's, (restaurant/bar), Troll Pub Under the Bridge (restaurant/bar), others along this area.

I'm a member of a bourbon club in Cincinnati & a Facebook secondary selling group (technically illegal), it's where I buy anything hard to get, have to pay secondary/street price for things (a little lower than national secondary as we buy/sell lower and avoid scams/shipping). Prices seem to be better than they have been. I'm going to pick up 3 bottles from someone tomorrow, I think all close to retail (close enough & I don't have to search for them). Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B521, 1792 Full Proof Store Pick and Larceny Barrel Proof B122, $180 total & pickup is about a mile from my house.
