And when you have to replace the engine or transmission in short order because you bought a used BMW only intended to run through it's warranty period, it's like buying another new accord.

That is a crazy amount of depreciation. Why do super luxury cars all seem to drop like a rock used?

That's a huge part. Parts and systems that cost crazy amounts to replace if they go bad, so the "worth" of the car depreciates fast, the cars are so complex now that they are almost guaranteed issues down the road. Complex high strung engines that develop issues, etc.

I do wonder if there will be a time, where there will be so many OEM batteries, that you can just replace them, outside of the manufacturer. If that day comes, that's when I will consider EVs. Not before then.

Ooh, lets count how many idiots lost their home because they live on the coast or at 5' above sea level.

I did not know salt water submersion was a special risk factor for lithium battery fires. It’s already almost impossible to insure anything in coastal Florida but for EVs I’m guessing even more so.
This isn’t gloating. I live in LA where earthquakes and fires plague us so I take these sorts of considerations seriously. |

Me too, the hassle with insurance if EV's self ignite and the toll of what to do with the charred wrecks with mounting disposal problems and the possible resulting ground contamination.

I'm going with "Nah, not true." I have over a million reasons not to agree with your supposition.

Right, because there are no billions of dollars being poured into EV charging infrastructure and ZERO controversies over coverage, charger availability, recharge speed, and cost per-kilowatt. And Ford DIDN'T make a deal with Tesla to allow Ford EV customers to use Tesla's network...

So like me you are confused when someone thinks every vehicle needs to go 800 miles on a tank of gas, while also being a great track car for people who live in condos in the middle of nowhere Wyoming. I believe what confused you AND me is that despite the title this is an EV politics thread. Every post by the “regulars” has to be looked at through the lense of everyone will be forced to have an EV by 2030 regardless of how ridiculous and impractical and basically unachieveable that is… and that’s bad… so all EVs are bad. Hope that clears it up for you. |

The Europeans are against the 6000, 7000, and even 8000 lb death machines that we have all over our roads, whether gas or electric. When heavy vehicles crash into lighter vehicles, those in the lighter vehicle are much more likely to be injured or die. The average car on European roads is about 20% lighter than the average car on USA roads because our average cars are mostly heavy SUVs and pickup trucks.
