Paint Curing & PPF/Adhesives

Hate to start another PPF-related thread but seeing as paint can take upwards of 3 months to fully cure and offgass, is it advisable to delay coatings and adhesives?

I’ve seen permanent marks left by the oem spoiler adhesive, probably since they’re applied soon after the paint. Has anyone who applied PPF on day 1 had to remove a piece, if so, how did the paint look underneath?

I get my cars ppf'd day 1. No issues. I've also had other parts painted & immediately ppf'd without any problems. On my last part they told me to wait 2-3 days.

My PPF guys say they won't PPF newly-painted body panels for at least 2 weeks after painting, but prefer 30 days. They've been there, done that, many times apparently.

They said during normal PPF installation and adjustment they've had week-old paint completely peel off with the PPF. Obviously depends if the new paint has been exposed to heat/direct sun, winter/summer temps etc.

I've had a bumper repainted and PPF'ed immediately, with the PPF being removed about a week or two later (to get PPF redone). No issues as the PPF came off clean with no paint damage whatsoever. I used to also think that paint needed to cure for a bit, but am not not so sure that is necessary.

Factory paint vs body shop paint is a different animal.

The factory paint is sprayed by machine and cured differently.

Yes I have, no issues with the paint. Factory paint is pretty much cured before it leaves.

Factory cars sometimes spend weeks or maybe more in waiting for transport/delivery sometimes, keep that in mind.

I did mine 2 weeks after delivery but the car was built 4-6 weeks before I took deliver so I wasn’t worried at all

i believe the op is talking about freshly painted parts. my ppf shop won’t touch it for atleast 30 days. its a risk and most shops not paying for the damage.

I was mostly talking about factory paint. Depending on how long my M25 delivery takes I'm going to try to wait a month from the time it was painted to apply ppf.

What made me think about it was someone having permanent marks in their paint from the spoiler tape. Can't remember where I saw the post.

There's no reason to wait with factory paint. Unless you don't drive the car for that 30 days you're waiting, you're just taking the chance of getting chips or scratches.

I had some weird marks left by the spoiler adhesive when I removed it. Some cutting & polishing compounds took care of them & the painted looked better than the day I picked it up.

Factory paint is cured at twice the temp as any aftermarket paint. That plus the time it sits during assembly and transportation I wouldn’t worry about PPF upon delivery.

A lot of dealerships even do the PPF in house and will do them as soon as they receive them.

When I had my rockers painted I waited 45 days before PPF.
