So long as it's only Fords, who cares. I'm all for Nissan adding this to every Altima as well.

I think it's Ford spying on everyone.

Apparently no one at Ford has read the book "1984".

Sad.

I wonder how much over the speed limit Ford thinks is speeding? I know my speed sensor has a problem with school zones. It thinks the limit is always 20 mph even in the summer when there is no school.

Speed limits are usually determined by states and there can be wide varieties. In Pa and NJ there are school zones that are time limited to certain hours of the day. I'm not sure how or whether mapping systems are aware of all these nuances.

My system doesn’t use mapping but actually reads the speed limit signs. And yes in my area the school speed limit is only when children are present.

If you read the article carefully, the technology would only be in the police cars. It would not send data from your Ford to the police. But reading is gay, right?

Get outta here with that. Read the headline. It obviously says all Ford cars sold from today on out will automatically ticket drivers for speeding.

I wonder what kind of ticket it would be?

I rolled a right turn on a red light in some town in rural Texas and I got a ticket in the mail for $75. I was curious how many points I'd get, so I called my ticket lawyer about it and he said "throw it in the trash, camera tickets are unenforceable in Texas. It's a voluntary fine"

Guessing the cops driving the interceptor will set the threshold.

I’m trying to think how it will realistically work. Imagine a cop driving on the NJ Turnpike, they’d be getting an alert from every car around them.

Speeding.

Not sure about TX but the camera ticket I received from MD was real and reciprocal to PA. Way cheaper to pay than deal w/trouble later.

Just b/c Ford developed it and patented it doesn’t mean they won’t license the technology.

I could imagine Geico helping to make that a reality.

Passive speed monitoring is coming to America in a few more years, no more than a decade. Will that rat on you ? They say no, but it's not a stretch to think so in another decade or so. 'Ford police' cars isn't a stretch. Law enforcement and government agencies in general love their easy money grabs. And they have armies of lobbyists.

Forget about that, I am tired of the wife's CX-5 auto braking when I am nowhere near the car in front of me. I even set it to the least sensitive setting.

I'll stick with cars without those types of nannies.

Depending on your age, health, repair skills, usage of car, financial situation, etc, yeah, you might avoid those ‘nannies’. Fast-forward 20-30 years, it will be standard in every model. Insurance companies want max premiums and zero payouts. And they have armies of lobbyists.

There are days that a first generation Ariel Atom looks massively appealing !

We have the CCFCL (Canadian Centre for Civil Liberties), they seem a bit slow out of the gate.
