Off-gassing from new sunshade

Hey folks,

I bought the genuine BMW sunshade for my M8. I've noticed that whenever I use it, it produces very thick windshield haze after about an hour (and the haze is deposited as stripes that match the shape of the sunshade). Has anyone else had this happen? It's incredibly annoying to clean that windshield every single day after I use the sunshade in this summer heat.

This genuine BMW sunhade *appears* to be covercraft - it looks identical aside from the big BMW letters on the front.

In any event, what do you all think I can do about this? Maybe I can leave the shade in the hot driveway to let it off-gas there? Any idea of how long that would take?

I'm frustrated here. I want to save the nice leather on my dash, but I'm getting really tired of cleaning that sharply sloped and tight windshield.

FWIW, just bought a shade directly from cover craft and haven’t had this happen. Been 110 a few days out here.

The BMW sunshade is not made by Covercraft. I got the BMW shade as a gift and tossed it and got a UVS100. Never had any outgassing issues in over 6 years, and since I’m more than a mile up and ol’ Sol is brutal, I use it daily 365…

I have had my BMW sunshade for over 6 years. Never had a problem with it off-gassing.

I've had my OEM BMW shade for 2.5 years without any issues!.

My vote is stop using this particular sun shade.

I have one for my f90, the BMW oem , and yes, it doest the same thing for me, so I rarely use it anymore, even thought im in Arizona and it definitely needs to be used. Luckily 99% of the time I park in the garage. But hot days if im out on the golf course or something like that it definitely leaves a haze.

Ive also noticed, that some people dont even notice it, where for me it drives ma absolutely insane to have a hazy inside of the windshield.

I thought about flipping it over, and maybe it wouldn't do that, but I havent tried it yet. It just sits in the trunk now.

Had the same issue. Covercraft sunshade fixed the problem.

I'm glad (well not glad, but you know what I mean) that I'm not alone in this.

I'll try baking it by leaving it out on the driveway for a week or so....maybe that will finish off the off-gassing. If that doesn't work then I'll try to ebay it and get a different brand.

Yes this annoys me to no end. I got Covercraft's UVS100 in my previous car and it was perfect. When I got my G30, I wanted to go OEM and I picked up a shade from BMW. Even a year later this thing is off-gassing like crazy... my windshield is hazy after every use. My partner used an OEM BMW shade in their G20 and it did the same thing. We even took them inside and thoroughly cleaned them with Murphy's oil, rinsed, and dried. No difference. Im selling mine and picking up a Covercraft again. Literally everyone online says BMW's is made by Covercraft... but if it is, it goes through an inferior manufacturing process. BMW's has a nice felt backing and feels more premium and heavy... but that's not what a radiant barrier needs to be effective. I bet the off-gassing is coming from the adhesive used to bind all those layers together.
