Memorial Day is a day to remember those who will never grow old, no matter when or where they were born and when or where they died. We remember!

Of course I’m thankful for and respectful of those whose lives and loss we remember today.
I think it is important for the rest of us to honor their sacrifice by doing what we can to uphold the freedoms and rights they died to protect. I also struggle with the phrase “happy Memorial Day” as I cannot think it a happy day for those who lost a relative in service to the nation. Is there a better, or more appropriate greeting? |

RIP to my beloved Nephew Staff Sargent (Promoted Posthumously) David A. Mejias, US Army, who we lost to an IED in Baghdad, April 1, 2007. Yes, Memorial Day is not a "Happy" day...but a solemn Day. David, I miss you!

I can't say i am immune to days after 9/11. As a loadmaster I brought home far too many fallen and sadly even at a point grew agitated as I we sometimes ate into our scheduled takeoff time to await a fallen soldier. War does that till you bring home a friend like I did that cross trained to get out of harms way only to die in an IED blast in Balad. His wife and kids and family were at Dover and I will say it was not a fun time.
I flew down range missions twice a month and in that time at least 2/3 of the time there was a transfer case coming with us back to Ramstein and maybe Dover till Kallita Air took over for AMC. May families find some solence in the fact they their loved ones received dignity and respect on their journey home. I am sorry I felt that way. |

I was in Dijon France on a business trip. Had a weekend to kill. The weather up north (Normandy) was crappy so I decided to drive to the south coast of France. Regret the decision to this day.
