Just bought M240i Advice?

Hi guys,

Finally got a m240i after looking for months. But I have a question for you. The one I've chosen has very good spec and is in mint condition.

It's a 2019 reg with 46k miles.

It has a full BMW service history and only thing that worries me, looking at the servicing, it did 24k miles in one year. After this, it only did 5-8k a year.

I do also have a BMW letter saying how it was used as a courtesy car for a day before. I'm assuming it must have been used as a BMW courtesy car for a year to rack up 24k miles. I can see from the documents that it was then bought by a regular buyer after that. But would this worry anyone? Servicing has been done and logged and it definitely does not look like it's been ragged.

As it's 5 years old, most people do 10k miles a year so 46k really isn't much I guess. Just surprised it did 24k in a single year at one stage.

Your thoughts on this would be great!

Thanks

Since you have already bought it, just relax and enjoy it. I once bought a service loaner and a friend also bought a service loaner. Both cars ended up very reliable.

This. You already have it, and it's serviced

I have two program cars:

2009 528i, bought in 2009 with about 12k miles on it at about 9 months old. Now has 126k miles on it. Only major issue was a transmission that failed at around 120k miles two years ago.

2011 335i sedan, bought late in 2012 with 16k miles on it. This car was sold to me as a CPO. Now has about 80k on it and my daughter is the current owner. No major issues. It did require a suspension refresh at around 60k miles, which I thought was sooner than expected.

I am fine with buying BMW program cars.

I wouldn’t worry about 24k miles in one year, especially if it was maintained by the dealer. I had to work offsite for many years and my daily round trip was 90 miles/day which is equivalent to 23.4k miles/year. My DD mileage passed 200k miles pretty quickly (car also used for errands, etc. which added up to an additional 8k miles/year so > 30k miles/year combined). My wife’s DD is a ‘18 m240ix and she loves the size (very close to the dimensions of an e46 M3) and the performance of the B58.

Enjoy your car and don’t worry about the mileage.

Thanks for the peace of mind. I had a look at the sat nav history and I can see 'Concierge Services' a few times which was a 80 mile trip. Not quite sure what that's about. Guessing that was what it was used for too.

I think the BMW Concierge Service helps you pick interesting travel locations along with nav directions while you’re driving.

The B58 is a strong engine. Engine is barely been used at 46k miles. I don’t know about the MY ‘19s but the MY ‘18s have a barely noticeable pops/bangs which I prefer. I’m glad my f82 is a MY ‘16 which is before they added obnoxious pops/bangs in MY ‘17. The B58 power feels much more linear than the S55 and pulls nicely to redline. We installed a MCS 2WR F/R 500/800 lbf/in rates and ride quality is superior to stock.

That makes sense, think you could be right. And ikr I've wanted the B58 for a while, I had the N55 prior which I loved, but tbh the power difference is more than I thought. Might also be because the M240i is lighter than my previous 435i GC. Only thing I don't like about my B58 M240i so far, is how quiet the exhaust is. Planning to get a res delete soon

Stock, the b58 has more power and torque than the n55. The weight delta definitely helps but I don’t believe it’s a large delta between a 435 GC and a m240i. The short overboost which increase torque to the level of the OG n55 M2 is a nice bonus. Yeah, the exhaust is somewhat quiet but the sound it does produce is significantly better sounding than the s55!
