New Tie rod end will not tighten to torque spec.
2012 BMW 335i E92 Replacing the tie rod ends.
Taper is bottomed out all the way with a 21mm wrench while counter holding the stud with a T40. I can put all my weight into the wrench and it’s definitely bottomed out. When I go to tighten the 21mm with a socket on my torque wrench set to 122 ft lbs it will not get anywhere past 100 ft lbs and starts to spin the stud with it mobdro . Even if I put a jack under the ball joint it still spins when trying to get a click out of my torque wrench. I did not have this problem on the other side. I removed the nut to inspect everything and noticed some metal shavings on the threads of the nut. I am 100% positive I did not cross thread anything. The nut spun on smoothly by hand until it reached the nylon lock. Where should I go from here? Last edited by wadde; 03-11-2024 at 07:15 AM.. |

jack under the ball joint of the tie rod end and send it home with an air gun.

You need to hold the ball joint stud with the T40 while tightening the nut.
