Question ► Sauna Install

i have an outdoor outlet, similar to pic, near the patio which i think has a conduit underground that leads to the garage where the fuse box is.

question is, can i remove the outlet and hook up the terminals to a 8kW 240vac 1ph sauna?

thinking about a barrel sauna and this would be the only power source available at the moment without having to install another line.

If that is a 120V outlet, the best case is that it is a 20 amp circuit and fed by 12 gauge wire.

If my math is correct, you will need a 240V feed at 40 amps (33 amp load) including the usual safety factor.

I will let you Google for the required wire size for the above, and hope that your conduit is both passable and large enough for the new wire.

Disclaimer that I'm not an electrician, but had to install a 240V/40A outlet for my 32A EV charger.....

That is correct calculation. One more thing to consider is how long are the wires. It may be necessary to increase gauge if over a certain distance for a given amperage. And one more: 240V wires should be red, black and grounding green. I bet the currents are black and white.
