Seatbelts won't tighten automatically
Hi guys, Just bought my first BMW. It’s a 2001 E39 (LCI) 530i. Had it 2 days.
I was under the impression every single BMW’s seat belts automatically tighten on departure after being fastened. But my car doesn’t do this in any of the seats I believe. Is this a feature only on some not all, or do I have an electrical fault?? I can’t seem to find anywhere on the Internet where anyone else describes having this problem. |

e39's are not equipped with pre-tensioners. They do have pyro-technic tensioners on the front belt latches that deploy to tighten up the belt tension when the airbags are deployed. One time use only, of course.

Not a feature on E39s. If the car is new to you, definitely pull out the Owners Manual and take a read, there is a lot of very useful information you can get from reading it. Stuff even longtime owners don't know.
