Anyone have holiday advice on Norway?

Hello Folks,

My Wife and I are going to Norway next July for five weeks, a week for the British GP at Silverstone as well

Just wondering if anyone has been and if they have any advice on what to see, do and where to stay?

Thanks ever so much.

H

First of I haven't been, but Lofoten is incredibly beautiful, and you can check out Viking stuff. It will be busy in July per my Norwegian friends and you won't see the northern lights quite yet. It's on my list for sure.

We went 7 years ago (god has it really been that long). We stayed a couple of nights in Oslo at the Saga Hotel which worked out great for us.

I am 50%+ Scandanavian (dad's side is pure Scandinavian). So the main purpose of our trip was family history related. We visited the family farm that has been been in the family since at least the 1400's. So the rest of our trip was completely in the hand of family

Assuming Oslo is one place you will be visiting, I would have suggested the Viking Boat Museum, but it is closed as they are relocating. So I would try and make it to the Gol Stave Church Museum.

Vigeland Sculpture Park is a cool place to just walk around. The Akershus Fortress is also a great place to visit and you have to walk by the Nobel building. I don't remember exactly where it is, but there is a building down by the waterfront with some cool wooden art of the Norse Gods. I'm thinking it's at the Radhuset building.
