Four way stops

1. There is a car (A) in the lane next to you who arrives at the 4 way stop intersection first.
   
2. Then another car (B) arrives at the intersection from the street on the left.

4. Car (A) has the right of way since they arrived first.
   
5. Technically car (B) should be next since they arrived after car (A) but before you.

7. Car (B) goes after you and car (A) clear the intersection

Were you justified in taking your turn before car (B) even though they were there first? You didn't delay car (B) at all, and you legally came to a complete stop. The cars in the lane you were in now has to wait for one less car, which reduces traffic.

I say yes, this is perfectly fine. Thoughts?

The average Brit can't use one properly either so I can't see how Americans fit into this.

I pretty much agree with you. I think in purely technical terms you should wait, but I’m not that much of a stickler.
