Proper way to clean digital gauge cluster

Hi all, looking for any suggestions to clean the digital gauge cluster on '21 X5. I have tried simple water, eye glass lens cleaner, etc with unsatisfactory results. Seems like the previous owner used some type of chemical or could be finger print oils that were allowed to dry off resulting into a "burn stain" into my screen. Any good suggestions?

The only way to do it properly is to mist reverse-osmosis water onto it and use real (not from a can) compressed air to blow it off.

Beyond that it's replacement.

Not that I have ever looked or encountered, OP, but are you sure the smudge you see is not a AR coating

Yeah, RO or DI water are considered pure and wont' leave any minerals behind. I'd start there with a microfiber, but beware that some microfibers can actually be a bit scratchy.

You may have to decide if there's something -on- the screen that can be cleaned off (oils, fingerprints) or if it's actually -damaged- and some kind of protective layer is gone.

If it's oils, fingerprints then step up to glass cleaner (sounds like already tried, but maybe try Invisible Glass or something a little stronger). Next step up is some IPA (isopropyl alcohol). Can cut that with water maybe to be 50/50 ratio, or go stronger. The downside is that as you go up in chemical strength you also up the chance of causing new damage.

If some sort of coating is gone, that's that, live with it or get a new screen.

Maybe one other option - remove the screen, and remove all of the coating, so that it's at least uniform. Reinstall. If you consider replacing the screen, this step could be tried first, because at that point it's sort of like you have nothing to lose if it doesn't work.

You can try a matte screen protector. It helped to make the scratches on my iDrive screen 98% less visible.

I use a very light mist of Gyeon glass on a microfibre cloth.
