Yep, I have driven all except the oldest and newest generations. I concur that older is "better" in regards to connection to road and machine.

E34 is awesome, E39 is great, E60 and newer is too big and bloated but obviously way fast. Too fast for me on small and rough Eastern PA roads, I come from a smaller sports car background.

I personally own a E30 325is and would love to compare to the E28 in terms of handling. I have a feeling though that the E34 is the sweet spot for me, although it does have a steering box that is a bit vague compared to 3-series rack and pinions. It looks like the E28 generation has steering boxes too.

I saw a similar video on M3s, still wanted the slowest one, E30 M3, then maybe E46 or E90, lol. BMW magic happens in the corners when you don't have to lift off, just keep turning in...

At some point, the modern technology is "better" in regards to safety, reliability, and practicality. Otherwise, we'd all be driving these.

While I WILL stare at a Porsche 356 in a museum ALL DAY. You wouldn't catch me DEAD driving one. Why? Because all of the Meth Heads driving the other way. There's always some ass**** having a bad day, messing with the kids in the back seat that are fighting, and all it takes is a split second...and....

You're dead. The newer cars are better at making you safer from this. There isn't a guarantee, but I've been patching people up from car accidents for over 30 years now. Stuff that people came in DOA on me 30 years ago now they walk away from without a scratch. The people we have to patch up now would have had closed casket funerals in the past with multiple parts either in the casket or they couldn't find them.

Nostalgia is cool....until....

Back to topic, what M5s have you driven or enjoyed? Driving them in video games doesn't count.

I had an e34 3.6 M5. I bought it back in 97 & kept it until 2001, I thought it was epic & although the other BMW’s I’ve owned since are all ‘better’ it’s still my favourite, there is just something about an ‘analogue’ car, especially an M car.

Almost bought an E28 M5 in 1996 (being sold for $26k). The car was owned by a United Airlines executive, who kept it in a garage of his house located inside the Chicago loop. (If you know the area, you know how strange it is to see a house within a forest of skyscrapers.)

After reviewing all the 4 figure repair bills (the car was immaculate), I chickened out and let it go. While it was a prudent decision at the time, I still have the PPI report I paid for, and consider that E28 one that got away...

E34 (friends), F90 pre-LCI, and post LCI

Agreed. I'm on all on the parameters, but there's a bunch of people who have unbridled and unrealistic nostalgia for old cars. There are gearheads that have openly argued with me that 1960's cars are safer than modern ones. And it's not a prefab. Believe this is the fist time I've ever typed that.

Big fan of the M5's, including the two I've owned. Just want all my friends to be safe.

Fun video. I've only ever driven two, an E28 and an E39. E39 was underwhelming, they're overhyped IMO. I'd take my E34 in Avus blue or an E60 in Indy red. Those two are the GOATs, in that order.

Trust me, I also drive a 1955 Triumph TR2 and various motorcycles, I understand the whole "organ-donor" perspective on certain vehicles. I have no illusion regarding the risks I take.
