very impressive when you consider the last GT2RS was only 2 seconds faster.

I think it's the active aero rear wing. It probably makes a ton of difference on a balanced track like that.

Balanced mix of variables around the track. You have some tracks that are super tight and technical where a lighter go cart like car like Miata might overperform it’s class against high powered cars because they have not enough long straight sections to use that power. Or the opposite can happen where it just goes down to the most powerful car.
On a seperate note found the article that mentioned the track conditions and some of the headwinds the RS faced on this run. THe way they write there is a lot more potential speed here: https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a4...s-nurburgring/ |

Usually to describe aero requirements.
High downforce/high drag -> Balanced -> Low downforce/low drag Depends on how many straights, low/medium/high speed corners there are. Overall, less downforce nets better laptimes at the Ring but because the GT3RS has a drag reduction system, it can use more downforce in low speed corners and less in straights. |

Curious as to why he did not hit 7th gear in the straight away
- Specs says it's 7 gears - Maybe in track mode is preventing it? But keeping it above 7k most of the time would have my legs shaking |

7th gear is a mpg gear it would not make sense to go into that gear on any straight away. Out of the power band |

Starting at 6:10 would you not want to reach your top speed? Here is a side by side vs GT2 RS and it hits 7th gear Wouldn't the gt3 want hit 7th gear to get top MPH |

The GT2 RS actually has less drag so it can hit a top speed of 330km/h. Now the article i linked earlier mentioned they were getting a lot of headwind on the straight. Perhaps that + the drag was keeping it from going into 7th (you notice it even accelerates slower). Or perhaps given the conditions didn’t feel glued the driver didn’t want to punch. In theory you would want to go to 7th but looks like he was close enough to end that it wasn’t worth the last few KM. OR literally wind + drag bad juju. Hard to tell but nice comparison video |

that section is a very steep hill so maybe that's the actual top speed |

It's rare that a sports car these days can max out the top gear, they are mostly there for convenience and practicality, so you aren't at 3000rpm on the highway, etc. If you look at what the max speed is for that gear ratio, it gives you an idea of how it is used. On most US race tracks, getting above 130 is rare, but even if you get a few extra mph in a straight, that's literally nothing next to carrying a few extra mph in a turn. Like above, you have to look at the torque curve relative to the gear and speed and the max speed for the gear. It's highly unlikely that any car is going to get into the top gear on a race track. Even though straights are long...they just aren't *that* long and the faster you go, the more you have to decelerate for the next turn. I know my car is something like 270mph in top gear if you could go to max RPM. Mustang is something like 320. No, we don't have the HP to get there. Aero drag limited.
