Thinking to build a new PC
Coming from an I9-9900K
I already have power supply and RTX 3080. So, here are my proposed build components: https://www.microcenter.com/product/...r_Case_-_Black Cool Open Case https://www.microcenter.com/product/...TX_Motherboard Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Pro MB https://www.microcenter.com/product/...k_Not_Included Intel I7-12700K (There just is no need to go to an I9-12900K in terms of performance difference) https://www.microcenter.com/product/...er_Cooling_Kit Kraken 360mm AIO water cooler https://www.microcenter.com/product/...-TZ5RK_-_Black DDR5-6000 32GB RAM https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QVD9V7R...v_ov_lig_dp_it Extremely fast NVMe M.2 2TB drive, getting two of these for game storage https://www.microcenter.com/product/...id_State_Drive 500GB NVMe M.2 drive - primarily for OS + core apps Again, I will just reuse the 850 watt Gold + power supply and EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080 I primarily do VR simulation games like DCS, MS Flightsim, and driving/racing titles with an HP Reverb G2 headset. Should be a good upgrade. |

Solid selection overall. Couple of tweaks I'd suggest if you're open to it.
1. Check out the EK or Lian Li AIOs. They tend to be some of the best performance out there. Just going from a Kraken to 360 to an EK elite 360 made several degrees difference in my CPU temps. Some of the Corsair Cappelix coolers might be good too and allow you to set fan speed based on Water temp for quieter operation. 2. Might just be me, but I'd steer clear of Gigabyte, especially for the motherboard. They've had some really poor QC and warranty practices lately. Maybe check out Asus Rog/Strix or others. 3. You're probably fine running just the 2 2TB M.2 drives without a separate OS drive. Check the speeds of the various M.2 slots on the motherboard you go with as some slots might run at slower speeds or bandwidths. Some great reliable options are the WD Black SN850 and Samsung 980 Pro which should be similar performance or faster than that Hynix drive for around the same price, but from my knowledge have a more proven track record. 4. Your 850 Watt Gold should be fine for this setup. If you're planning on overclocking, you might want to jump up to a 1000W at some point if needed. This is all based on a recent 5900x and 3080ti build I completed. Hope it helps!

Nice build, would only switch to a Noctua air cooler for simple reliability.
Case is cool, will require regular dusting. |

1. I'll check out those AIO products, thanks 2. I've done a ton of research on the all around best DDR5 MBs and the Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Pro consistently shows up in the top 3. I haven't seen many negative reviews re customer support or warranty... 3. Check out this link on the review of the SK Hynix Platinum PCI4 NVMe M.2 drives - they're the fastest ever tested: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...ssds,3891.html Thanks again! |

For the motherboard, I admit I haven't delved too deep into the 12th gen/DDR5 boards, but I know they were recently having issues with their Z690 Ultra boards. A few months back they had a data breach which basically froze their RMA process and people online were reporting that Gigabyte was refusing to honor RMAs because there was no record in their systems. Not sure if the situation is better now, but I believe Jaystwocents, Gamers Nexus, and others had posted/made videos about their customer support during that incident and before. Not saying it won't be an excellent board, but personally it just seems like Asus, EVGA, and some others might be safer bets. Either way, this is shaping up to be a great build!

Waste of time. Why would you go from a 9900k to a 12700k? You're not bottlenecked by anything on that 9900k system and it's not going to improve your games at all.
Just wait and buy a 4xxx series GPU this fall and wait for a more mature CPU from Intel or AMD with DDR5. First generation of a new DDR spec is always bad.
