BMW to use Neue Klasse (New Class) platform for next gen 3-Series full EVs
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com The platform will play 'a crucial part' in the ramp up of EV sales for the company, CEO Oliver Zipse said. https://europe.autonews.com/cars-con...gment-full-evs BMW will initially focus its Neue Klasse (New Class) architecture on full-electric models for the midsize premium segment, CEO Oliver Zipse said. The platform, which will go into production in 2025 at the automaker’s new factory in Hungary, will only offer a battery-electric drivetrain, Zipse said during the automaker’s first-quarter earnings call on Thursday. "When it hits the market, it will be concentrated on the 3-Series segment and at that point in time the market will have developed into a size where it is reasonable to have only one drivetrain in that architecture," Zipse said. Safe to assume that EVs built on this platform will be assembled in Hungary and all remaining ICE vehicles will be built as they currently are at their current factories?
If the i4 is anything to go buy, I am looking forward to and am very excited to see what a 3er/4er will become on a dedicated platform. |

I'm guessing they will stop making cars in Germany at some point unless they find a way to shift production back over if this is their dedicated platform for all future vehicles

Highly unlikely. Union and political pressure would be too great for that to happen.
From the way the article it worded I take it to mean that the next generation 3 series, etc., will be delivered on two different platforms depending on power source. |

2025 I believe is EOP for the G20, so at that point it sounds like they'll diverge into 2 different platforms. Should be interesting, especially if the non EV platform will have electrification as well.

Here is an opportunity to see the progress at BMW City Otherwise known as Plant Debrecen.
As you can see core infrastructure is in place that not only benefits the plant itself. But also the local area. Plant Debrecen is significant as it will be the core factory for models developed under the Neue Klasse. https://europe-cities.com/2022/04/27...ihar-counties/
