woo hoo fixed my toilet ! LOL
I know it don't seem so much but I fixed our my first flapper toilet !
All the others were the different type, ball float with the doo hickey which everything goes up, if you get what I mean. I think there are only 2 types of flushers. I knew how to adjust the old type but when I took this apart , I was a little nervous ! ANYWAY we had a contractor put a toilet in our new basement remodel, which he totally fuq;d up (which is another story.. we threw him off site) But for months I swore I kept hearing the toilet flushing or making noise like it was running, as we used the base ment for storage at that point, it must have been going on for months. Anyway when I was downstairs doing the laundry I realised that the toilet was running. So I switched it off meaning to get somone to look at it for maybe a good 6 months (I knew it was the new type with a flapper , the contractor had already told me) I saw a few shop models and all the gubbin was a bit intimdating. Then as no-one was using it, I guess the drain was drying out and getting the stinky smell ro ended up and constantly pouring water down the u bend every now and again. So I got fed up with this so I looked up youtube and said "I can do this" Took the lid off, open the tap and immediately saw that the float was not adjusted properly and water just was running down the tube. The fuqqr didn't make any adjustments I bet he just fit it and waved good buy, as it was summer we had big bills, and just put it down to you know, watering the garden, dishwaher, washing machine you know. By winter we had it off. God how much money did I pour down the drain. Adjusted the float with a crosshead.. 10 minutes WOO HOO which also saved myself $00's of bucks on calling out a plumber I know it don't seem so big a deal, but a win is a win. Who knows maybe next time, I'll find some coins down my sofa when I'm cleaning it out. LOL Or better yet , the BMW angels will cut me a break on one of my projects LOL |

A win is a win. Doesn't matter if it's by a half a second, or by a mile.
Good job tackling something that we should ALL know how to do. Shawn |

Gotta love a victory.
My girlfriends toilet in her old house was needing a full rebuild (tank leaking, etc) and I told her I would do it and she goes "Do you know how to do that?!?!" "Well, I will when Im done!" |

I've fixed and replaced so many toilets over the years. It's one of the easiest home repair DIY's. The amount that a plumber charges for these repairs is astronomical. It's just like replacing brake pads and rotors. If you have a good jack and the basic tools you will svae yourself a ton of money.
I've replaced ballasts in fluorescent lights, replaced garbage disposals, installed ceiling fans, and installed new sink fixtures. All you have to do is look how it's installed while removing and then just do the reverse. The garbage disposal was tricky to mount without a second person, so I used my floor jack to hold it up while I attached it to the mounting plate under the sink.

This is how it starts. I had a neighbor once that called me about a squeaky door - legit no shit - squeaky door. I helped him lube it - and that started me being his handy man. I drew the line one day when he wanted me to fix his toilet. I was like "dude - this is simple, roll up your sleeves and I'll show you want to do." He did and he was so freaking proud of himself it awakened some primal caveman in him. He'd still call for pointers, but always wanted to do it himself. I don't live next to him anymore, but the last time I drove by he was building a shed......himself. He has surpassed me!
