For what it’s worth, BMW was at the Chicago show, but no Audi or Mercedes. Only had a few cars though mostly the electric ones.

The German luxury trio, outside of Porsche, have been absent from the NY Auto Show since 2020. Decisions were made back then before the Corona Virus to skip the show. All three brands have said that it's become more cost effective to showcase their cars in other ways. For BMW think their experience days you can book for free. Mercedes noted that they generate a lot more interaction with their brand through select pop up events at malls and through digital means as showcasing at an auto show costs millions of dollars. It's a sad trend at what's occurring at auto shows but it's also opened up the door to other brands like startup EVs which will be on showcase with a whole floor dedicated to an EV test track for attendees.

Likely to have been the regional dealer-advertising-group footing the bill for that. BMW NA hasn't supported the "B" level auto-shows for years.
