it really depends. the v1g2 is a good detector if all you dealing with is Ka band, on K it leaves a lot of be desired and a uniden will be a better detector, I have an uniden R7 and has been really good, the R8 has even more range which is inside because the range on the R7 is already really really good. I about bought a valentine, I ordered it and was going to wait till they re-stocked but then saw k band performance and around here cops use a lot of K band so I switched my order and very happy with it

Not sure how it works in other states, but I have gotten a few tickets here and there in the past 10 or so years in GA. Worst thing you can do is just pay the ticket. Always go to the court date and talk with the solicitor. If you record is clean, they usually reduce the fine and will not put points on your license. Which can kill your insurance. Has worked for me every time. Now 25+ Over the limit or drag racing, not sure that method would work.
Now in rural GA in the small towns like with maybe one traffic light, they will find shady ways to pull you over especially where the speed limit goes from 55 to 35mph then 25mph 500 feet later. Many shady trap methods, but they nail you with a high ticket cost, but flat out let you know that it will not go on license or insurance. They "don't report". Probably because they know their methods are shady as hell and don't want record of it.

So for example if you plead guilty to pay reduced fine and no points, your guilty plea will still result in a conviction on your record which will then impact your insurance premiums. The only way to avoid this is you have to plead not guilty and win your case in court. If you win, the ticket citation will be withdrawn hence your driving record remain clean and no insurance impact. |

I try to let it go on roads unlikely to see cop radar or even cops themselves....hopefully. I try to pick spots cops are not in. Industrial streets. Helps when you know your local area of course. Then you'll know spot you can let it rip safely. Not fool proof but somewhat safer than main streets or highways. Short blasts up to speed etc. No acceleration laws here anyway. Get up to speed as fast as you like basically. I like on ramps as in my 47 years of driving I've never seen a cop on a ramp. Other than for R.I.D.E. (booze stop check setups). But then they are usually very visible as you get on the ramp. Speeding on the highways here is a big gamble. Cops everywhere usually. We have some superb highway here that are excellent for high speed. Just the cops don't feel the same way. As we speak, they are upping the driving penalties for going over 40kmh above the limit. They want 6 months in jail now for that. They call it racing basically or stunt driving. More culling of the population is all. |

YMMV....
There is no "safe" place to let these cars or (in my case) bikes rip. So while it's hard to do, focus on having fun in the corners, not the straights. In the straights you can reach serious speed and serious tickets quickly. But in the curves on rural roads, it's pretty hard to get a "go directly to jail" ticket as the speed limit for a given street is not set by the yellow "advisory" curvy road signs, but only by the white speed limit signs. So on a street that has a 45mph limit, there might be curves that 25mph is recommended. 55 mph through those curves would be plenty fun, while I suspect few police would pull you for 10 over. And if they do, it would likely have little to no impact on your license or insurance rates. Obviously I'm NOT referring to residential areas, etc. If you go 10 over in the curves there, you SHOULD go directly to jail.

You should put scrubs on. I've never gotten a ticket wearing scrubs. Well, except for the camera ticket I got a few years ago, but I wasn't wearing scrubs that day so the record holds.

My first M3 actually came with laser jammers, front and rear and luckily for me my state had a loophole making them "legal" for a few years. All a distant memory now however, sure had my fun though. |

In Arizona cops will normally give you nine miles over the speed limit before ticketing you. If one drives more than 20 miles over the speed limit, it becomes a criminal rather than civil offenses: most cops use that as a maneuver to get you to agree to a civil ticket.
Here one can do the driving school without having to attend court and the ticket will be tossed. BUT...you can only do it once every two years. |

In 2018 I was driving a 2009 911 Coupe. It was a straight, empty stretch of highway and I saw what looked to be an M2 a quarter mile ahead. I wanted to see it and I accelerated. After a mile I saw the lights in my rear view mirror and pulled over. The officer walked up and asked if I knew how fast I was going. I said I wasn’t sure, 70? He replied, I clocked you at 90 and I was having a tough time catching up, you were accelerating. Where were you going in such a hurry ? I replied, Well I was trying to get a look at the M2 up ahead. I’m thinking of getting one. He walked away with my license and registration and came back shortly.
He said I’m going to give you a warning, since you are looking at an M2. Then he said, I’m considering a new M5. We chatted a while. He finished with ‘don’t get yourself killed out here and be careful. Most of the officers aren’t like me.’ I bought a 2018 M2 and am now driving a 2020 M2C. |
