This is my E39 528i vs dad's F10 528i and a F90 M5 LCI at my local dealership. Notice not only the difference in width and height, but also how much higher the hood starts on more modern cars.

Yes I believe the higher fronts are in connection with somewhat limited protection for pedestrians
Agree the e39 front does look very low now compared to modern cars

Had a e39 530i mapper from new for 10 years , regretted selling as it has been my most favourite car to date (g30 next fav)
Steering was so communicative , really miss that
Really well built , felt so high quality
